Default Howdy From Texas !

Jadz928 gave me a nice hello in the color of the day thread and asked me to introduce myself.....Howdy from Texas.

I am a huge car nut - hence my forum user name on about 8-10 forums - carnutdallas.

I am pretty active on mye28.com and bimmerforums. I have been on rennlist since 2001ish with my old id. I have asked the mods to tie my id's together, but no response yet? Weird. I mainly was a digest subscriber for 911's. I have owned a few 928's, but I really am an air-cooled 911 guy. I have owned 10 Porsches over the last 15 years: 5 911's (my last one was an m491), 2 928's (not including 2 now), 2 944's and a 914

These days my wallet has shrunk considerably and my back seat needs have grown, so the e28 BMW has been a nice alternative.

I work in the automotive business. My background is collision repair, European service and auto sales. I have been self-employed for most of my career, with a family owned collision center near the Park Cities of Dallas. Many long winded stories as to my current career track, but lets just say family business require less family

I have been a licensed Texas auto dealer in the past and may one day invest the money again, but at this time I just buy, restore, enjoy and then sell unique opportunities. I have come to the realization in my life, that GOD did not intend that I own cars long term. It has just never worked out. I get a car I love, swear I will never sell and then blam - need cash for whatever reason and must sell. Kids, business and life in general usually being a factor. So I have decided not to fall in love with any one car and just enjoy what time I get to own, drive or tinker with what comes my way.

Hence, Pearl.....one of the most beautiful cars I have ever owned. Just a great color on the 928. The Cayman wheels look great and the car is in spectacular condition. Just finished a service and t-belt with new Laso water pump. Roger kindly sold me the Porktensioner and an upgraded t-belt. I made sure to read the forum for opinions and info; was informed about an old thread on this car and can confirm that all concerns have been addressed. The eventual buyer in 2007 spent about $4800 correcting most issues. The car had its second t-belt in 1992, but only driven 10k miles since it was done. Yet it is way too old to not get serviced again and properly. I photo documented everything, I have all receipts and will be putting the car up for sale shortly.

The enthusiasm of the 928 group is awesome. The cars, modifications and care you guys put into your cars is incredible. I am an enthusiast. I appreciate your efforts and I have done the same with opportunity afforded to me, to enjoy a car like this for a little while. I have been lurking for a bit and thought I would share when Jadz928 opened the door for me. By the way, I also have a Black/gray 5-speed 88 s4 with just at 25K miles. Undergoing full service at this time. Maybe I should sell them as a His/Hers pair - any takers

Have a great week and enjoy your sharks!

You're in the wrong part of town for 928s. Sorry.

Kidding! We have billions of them around. Welcome and enjoy.

...useless without....

Welcome Carnut!
I'd wondered when this pearl car would pop up... I knew it was in Texas and I can't quite remember who told me that - was a while back.

Yes, yes, pictures coming soon. There has been a lot of past 928 discussion on hood fitment, paint, etc. so I am addressing a few of those issues before full pictorial. Hood fitment is a no-brainer. I see the problem on lots of 928's. One of two most likely culprits - worn hood shocks or worn hinges. I took pic's a few weeks ago, but have since adjusted hing. Hood looks good.

In 2007 this car had a lot of discussion on paint and Pearl match. Car has not been painted. I figure with 15+ years in the industry I know a thing or tow about painting. All Panels have original tags. The "grain" of the paint, surface reflection, etc is the same on all panels. The reflection/refraction of the metallic under the pearl coating are causing the issue. Based on my research, my knowledge of Porsche paint work in the 80's. The rarity of this process from the factory and the nature of nearly 25 year old paint is causing the flip-flop on the adjacent panels. I will confirm that the front cover has been painted due to rock-chips based on prior owners knowledge and my confirmation. But overall in the sunlight this car is spectacular....the florescent light is not so forgiving. Here are some teaser pics:

Interior is every bit of a 9.7-9.8. It does have one scuff mark on drivers door panel, that I will deduct .1-.2....Interior is amazing. The second owner was a clean freak and loved nice cars, but only knew how to pay someone to service it and then be afraid to get it dirty by driving it. I have all the receipts from 911-Enterprises that addressed most concerns, but somehow he spent over $4800 and still never did a t-belt! The PK-tensioner is such a cool install and great device. I really waffled on purist original versus PK, but Roger said it was the way to go and I completely respect and agree with his opinion.
