Hi Malcolm - yep, we have the car up on the liftbars, all wheels off, and among other things, are looking at those brakes. We'll put new pads on today, all the way around (assuming he can get pads at one of the local parts stores - maybe a big assumption). Not sure why new pads weren't put on with the new rotors? Anyway, the rear pads are very worn. At least the fronts have plenty of material on them. If he can't get pads here, he'll be able to make to Hell and hopefully get some garage help there.
No idea about the pads either as they should have been done. We didnt have the wheels off but did do a heat check on all 4 rotors after a short run...........the rears were quite hot compared to front but side to side they were similar.
We did check all fluids etc and all is ok, even the hood stays up now

Had a great visit with Simon - good guy (what can I say about a guy who shows up in a Steelers jersey!). Worked late into the evening each night - great stuff!
We re-did the brakes - the rears were almost to the metal, and the fluid was horrible. All working better now. Also, rebuilt the 3 washer pumps, cleaned out the tank, scraped out as much of the rotted metal collar as we could without breaking any of the plastic, and generally identified additional things to do as time goes on. Had Simon for an extra day, due to a sudden onset of a bug, but we sent him off this morning in better spirits and a safer car! He is down in Yellowstone now, then heading east thru Iowa, then to Hell next weekend. If anyone else along the way can pitch in and continue help with fixing things, we can make this a most memorable trip for a fellow lister!

Hey all,
In Chadron NE
So the story since seeing Edd in Belgrade. Before I do, what a guy! Who else would spend literally hours on someone else's car and put in so much effort and their own resources at the expense of their own cars needs. Truly exceptional. I can't thank Edd and his wife enough for their hospitality.
Got to Yellowstone, wonderful couple of days doing geo thermal and wildlife related stuff. Car was great got all dirty again but no issues. Hiked to the Lost Lake nice easy hike after some high speed hiking in Glacier due to time restraints. What a place, I think I got some really exceptional shots of the car and the bison.
From there, on to Little Bighorn again a moving experience in memory of all veterans. The rangers did a great job of espousing peace but seemed not to focus too much on the ego of Custer which was interesting to me as it ultimately led to his downfall.
Next car related stop is Dubuque IA. Fingers crossed!
Easy paced evening to early morning cruise down 90 and 25 then east on 20 to Chadron. I'll resize these pictures and post them later.

Ed, Great way to represent to true character of the Rlist community. Just super and the pics are awesome. Brother, it must get damn cold out on that plain. Must have near perpetual wind too I'd imagine. Need to get a wind generator to power the garage heater.
Simon, you are getting a fantastic welcome and experience.

Hi Dan - I'm actually in the heart of the northern rockies. We do get wind from time to time, but not too bad. It gets real cold in the winter - 20+ below, but since the air is so dry, it doesn't feel that bad. Summers get hot. In fact, just had the a/c recharged on the Blumaxx, and it was a pleasant drive home from work today!

Simon got here tonight. We had some brats, corn, beer and beans. Spent the night looking at photos and comparing differences between our cars and the years that separate them. So similar but different.
Very nice fellow. Trip of a lifetime he is taking.
He's heading off to Michigan near Detroit tomorrow. We couldn't get him a room in the house cause we have a renter in the spare bedroom so I drug my Airstream home and he's set up in there. He asked me about camping sites around here and I told him if he had come last week we would have had some but the 15.1 inches of rain we got in 8 hours last Wednesday kind of did them in with the flash floods and all. now they are empty mud plains. Tree, power hookups, buildings, all gone.
Glad Simon could stop. Very nice guy.

Jeff......pls ask Simon if hes checked the oil level recently.....it was barely on the dstick when here so we added a litre. He had just changed it on route prior to his visit here.

The oil level was stable when he was here. About half way between the marks. There is a pretty good leak below, but it appears to be coming from the steering rack, near the banjo bolts where the lines connect, and from bad lines. The pan gasket for the oil pan looked good from my observation, but I didn't check it all the way around.
