19x10 spacer question 88, S4...
So I am picking up my baby this Saturday and want to order rims now so I can put them on ASAP...
I am not going for the classic look, I want a race track ready look without the decals...please no one Bi*&t*ch slap me but I will go with 19x10 or 19x11 for the rear and 19x9 or 19x10 for the front....
I have read many posts, and realize 19x11 may be a little to wide...question is:
If I go with a 19x10 do I need to remove and change the spacer...?
If I go with 19x11 do I need to remove and change the spacer...?
If yes to the above to what size spacer...?
- Let say without taking a baseball bat to the fender...what is the biggest I
could run.
- Also forget about comfort when reply'ng, not very important, I ride a
1098r ducati (alot of comfort there, oh and my wife has a Lexus, even
worse : )
I want to pull off 295/30/19 on the back and 265/35/19 on the front or something simular to this...
Thank you in advance for excepting me into the 928 family and for responding to my ignorant questions... : ) > please be brutally honest with me on this...
thanks agan brothers...with love from Peru (on business)

I would not go with 19's.
Even if you do go with them, you are going to want to try and fit them w/o spacers first, no reason to waste the money when you don't know if you need them. You are going to take a baseball bat to the fender no matter what.
If you try and put 265 on the front, be prepared to have it in 4x4 height mode.

ohh no I dont want 4x4 mode, maybe a 245/19 in the front would work better and then lower the spring if necessary. Well I wanted to change the springs for a fresh pair anyway seeing as I am going to restore the S4 to top condition. My E46 M3 too 245/19 no problem and I believe the S4 is bigger (well physically) but I guess the wheel well's are smaller...I was actually trying to use the tires from my M3 and plant them on new 19 inch rims for the S4. Trying to save some coin here and there...
thanks for the reply...

The brutal honesty is that you don't seem to have a clue about what you are doing. The first question I have is what spacers are you talking about having? My 87 with 17's does not havr any spacers. The next question is what setback are you looking at for the new 19's you are going to order "ASAP?" The next question I have is how much do you understand about the tire sizes you are considering? Do you know what 295 or 265 actually means? Do you know what 30 or 35 means? I assume that you at least understand what 19 means!
When you figure out the answers to these questions you will find that you are actually able to answer all of you other questions, but only assuming that you know what you started with that is now on the car.
Another question you need to know the answer to is how tall do you want the tires to be, front and rear. Those numbers will play a significant part in the final answers.

Your car came stock with 245/45x16 rear and 225/50x16 on the front. Both are 24"+ tall (diameter of wheel and tire). Whatever size you want to go to, you should try to maintain that diameter. Changes of more than approximatly 3% effect the ABS and effectively change the rear end ratio. Also you do not want to change one end by -3% with the other end +3%, that will really screw up the ABS. There are some here that are runing 19" successfully, but the thinner sidewall of the tire makes damaging the wheel on minor pot holes very easy. Just an FYI, Porsche has NEVER approved even 18" for the 928. Also going to a bigger wheel diameter greatly effects the ride quality. You say that's not a problem, but it gets old fast and the constant avoiding minor pot holes or little speed bumps takes all the pleasure out of these great cars. Lastly, 19" tires are still at a premium price wise, while 18's seem to be the best buy and the largest selection of sizes and prices.
The 928 is very critical of incorrect offset on the front wheels. To little and the handling is screwed up and it rubs on the inner fenderwell, to much and the tire/wheel sticks outside the fender. Make sure you get it right when ordering wheels. As you increase the width of the wheel the required offset changes so get it right the fist time. The back wheels can usually be accomadated with spacers for a less than optimal offset, but not the front.
Ask lots of question here with specific dimensions IE. width, diameter AND offset! Also search is your friend. There is a wheel thread that shows just about every wheel ever tried on a 928. If you find what you like, PM the owner to get recommendations and feedback.
Your M3 was designed with 19" in mind, the 928 wasn't! Good luck with your search.

+1....18" are more ideal. I have 993 Twists that were meant for the narrow body 993 at fit well with good offsets for the 928.
Dims:
18 x 8 front 52 ET running 225/40
18 x 10 rear 65 ET running 265/35

Wont fit, bolt patters do not match up..
Choose one of the below:
A. Cheap (price, looks, etc.)
B. Quality (fit, finish, looks, etc.)
