You have obviously never raced an Black 87 as they are twice as fast as any other color.

I think I'd seen it FS a couple years back.
I saw that ebay car and I really liked the interior. Don't see many of those.

As far as it being an auto, it's not a deal breaker to tell you the truth. I'm really not that picky. I just want a car that is what's mentioned above and as long as the auto doesn't feel like a slushbox, I'd be fine with an auto. I read that you can crank the modulator valve and it will increase the snap of the shift, similar to a th350 with a Corvette servo. So as long as the shift is firm and the car starts in first, I'd be OK with an auto.

That's really cool that you spent an hour of your time to look for a car for me, someone whom you've never met. That just goes to show how cool the Rennlist members truly are!

Thanks to all, especially Jim for going way beyond for a new guy! I owe you a beer!

So, I have a 81 4.5L, a 84 Euro S 4.7 L, and a 86 5.0L .
All automatics, and by far the best off the line is Euro - will spin the wheels on take off, the 86 ( with LSD) will keep up with it and actually take it eventually, they will both be waiting for the 4.5 at the end, however far away end is!

I owned a 76 Corvette back in 2000. It was a gutless pig that would get smoked by a fast ten speed. It handled like a school bus, squeaked like a teenage girl, rattled like a "personal massager" in a coffee can, but boy did it ever get looks! I had every hillbilly with smoke stacks woopin an hollerin' every time I went for a drive. I guess if the 928 could out perform that pile, I'd be happy.

I learned a long time ago, set your sights low, then hope for the best. If you hope fr the worst, it can only get better right?

If the headlights don't open properly, it's not a 928. It would be a 944 with a v8 and a body conversion. LOL

Arrest me red is the fastest color... The fastest to get a ticket!

I think even a lowly (though I rather like them at least in the looks dept) OB would outperform that Vette! That was in fact one of the cars that Porsche took a solid bead on when they brought the 928 out. Not only will it out do the vette in every possible way it will look way better while doing it and probably only get the loving glances of the upper crust and true car nuts...hillbilly's need not apply!

Get it in Guards red and make it look even pretty nice and EVERYONE will stop to look and give you a big thumbs up! I have had more of those loving glances (and some other kinds too I suspect) and thumbs up in EURO85 than is ALL the rest of my 928's combined and I have been driving the others for 15 years and EURO85 for 6 months!

The 76 Corvette and an 84 USA 928 both have nearly identical 1/4 times at 15.4 and very similar torque. Many with the early 928 do not engage in uncivilized street "races" but adopt the look and attitude that most cars are not worthy and wave them off.......harsh reality is you will have trouble running with a 944S if there are any twisty bits at all. The nearly 100 HP bump to the S-4 gets you up to the level of a new V-6 Mustang.

I think in style, luxury and build quality the 928 is still virtually unmatched... In the world of performance the landscape has changed DRASTICALLY and I don't think you can really compare cars from the '70 and '80's to cars of today. Also remember the 928 was designed in the early 70's and build planning started during the oil embargo so performance was purposefully kept lower than initially planned in the face of scarce fuel. Remember they projected 300hp and 5.0L for the car right out of the box, but didn't get there till much later ('80 for the EURO market and '85 for the US market). Imagine if the car had started life with 300HP... The GTS's would have been an easy 400 and would have been 6.0L or 6.4L engine cars.

Sometimes I wonder if people who buy (and occasionally drive) cars from the '40s and '50s have these same types of conversations:

"That Porsche 356 hits 60 MPH in about the same time as a Smart fortwo..."

The guys with the 1940s-1950s have no illusion about the level of performance. Perhaps the most super car aspect of the 1984 Porsche 928 was the nearly $40,000 window sticker. And the highest top speed 143 as I recall
