Wink which gives more trouble..clocks or sender ?

my early model has an intermitting problem the speedo,it reads perfect sometimes not at all most of the time and sometimes reads lower than actual speed.the mileage is also not being recorded even when it does work right!as asked which part gives the most trouble? any way to check for sure?

Back by the spare tire is a 4-pin connector for the speedo that has a tendency to corrode & short out.

I had similar issues with my 81 and it was 100% this connector. I cut it out, put in new connectors and perfect ever since.

Could also be corroded / dirty connection inside the pod (especially grounds). I would start with the connector in the back since it's the easiest.

The odo not working is most likely the little plastic gear that commonly breaks inside the speedo.

cheers for that. i don,t think my euro model has a spare wheel? but i,m sure the connector has to be close to the gearbox.i,ll check this out first.

The connector is inside the car in the corner of the spare tire well near the trans...

pretty sure my car doesnt come with a spare wheel well or spare

do you know if you have a a 928??
if you do then it most certainly has a spare tire well.

open the hatch lift the carpet then on the left side of the hatch floor you will see the well after lifting off the floor cover under the tire is also a battery box

Have you lifted the left side floor covering in the hatch area yet?

car is 81 928 only a snall box area under mat in the boot then battery below that but the compartment over the battery is way to small for a wheel.i cant charge my camera at the moment could someone post a pic of the spare wheel area

These come with a collapsed spare tire and an air compressor. Towards the front of that compartment you should see the connector we are talking about.

What a 928 spare looks like, and it is a very tight fit:

cheers guys i looked at that compartment and thought no way a wheel would fit in there.most look out for a spacesaver spare that would fit.i will look for the connector next time im in the boot.hopefully sort my speedo prob
