928-specific amp/subwoofer/deck for sale- SoCal
I got my sharkwoofer set up and working today, so I now have the rear amps/subwoofer/rack setup that came in my GTS for sale. Honestly I would really rather not ship this, as the subwoofer is a 35 lb brick, and the rear amp rack/deck is uh, the size of a 928 hatch area. So local pickup would be preferred but I will be trying to get to SITP in May, SF11 in October, and Third Coast in November, if you're not in a hurry. I'm not in a hurry to sell.
Price is $300 firm, I think that's fair to add thumpin' bass to a 928.
Details: (Shameless use of Ebay ads to list the amp specs...)
JBL GTO 504 4-channel amp

JL 300-2 2 channel (or bridgeable) amp

PPI Pro-10 flat piston 10" subwoofer

Amps together:
JL can be run in stereo or bridged for the subwoofer:
Full disclosure: I managed to strip the 2.5 mm hex grub screw holding one of the speaker wires to the left-most hole in the speaker connection strip. So I disassembled the amp cover, drilled out the stripped plug, re-tapped the hole, moved one of the good grub screws into that hole, then turned down a Philips head M4 pan head screw to fit the open (third in the pic) hole, so that all four speaker connectors are good. Not stock, but it'll work fine.
35 pounds of traction-improving, road hugging weight...
Fits perfectly in either a 16" or 17" compact spare.
In the GTS, the installer had glued a rectangle of thin MDF to the rear deck, bolted the amps to it, and built this cover/grille, covered in black vinyl.

How does the sound compare?
What are your other speakers?
The reason I ask is some how I just can not see you as the bass loving, rap and hip hop loving monster, I am?
That was a joke for the folks that do not know me
PS,
I have a big enclosure in mine with 2 12's and will be going with the sharkwoofer soon.

Did you know that classic Van Halen is considered mellow-enough, now, that it is used as elevator music? I $hi+ you not. There I was, thinking to myself, hey... good song.... wait.... crap.... I'm old.

They hatin', Patrollin'....
Not much of a rap fan but I do like De La Soul, a Tribe Called Quest, and other 'classic' hip hop. I play bass violin and bass guitar (my bass rig has pretty good LF response- 4x10 cabinets and 600W will do that) so I do enjoy being able to hear what the rhythm section is doing. Been on a Radiohead/Black Keys/White Stripes run lately, and of course most of the Zeppelin/Rush/Who/Southern Fried Rock catalog plays in the background. I happened to have Radiohead's OK Computer in the GTS when I fired up the Sharkwoofer, and of course there's no bass or drums until about :30 into the first track- for a minute I thought I'd miswired something.
RE: My old setup vs. the Sharkwoofer, for any volumes I'm likely to drive it, there's honestly not a whole lot of difference for my tired old ears. I did crank it up with Rush's 'Limelight' (the first CD I ever heard back in 1983 or so, I like the silence between the guitar phrases to listen for noise) and I think the noise floor is improved with the new Kenwood amp, whether that's inherent to the amp or the fact that I moved the amp power and ground out of the same harness as all the speaker runs is not clear. The big selling point for the sharkwoofer for me is that I can have 5 channels of external amplifacation and a kickass sub completely hidden in the spare tire well. Stealth is good.

Update, sold the subwoofer and rear deck cover yesterday at Sharktoberfest. Anyone interested in the JBL GTO 504 amp for $75 plus shipping?
