FWIW that price seems a bit low
I would make sure the flex plate is checked even with the low miles check for accident damage as well

...sounds like one of the services that lists a car, then once a potential buyer calls, they look for a similar car for sale across the US - but they don't actually have any cars themselves.

Why would you not leave a number for the alleged scammer to call you? I don't see how it is a scam at this stage. But I'm with you that it is suspicious and why should you invest any time in this. No loss.

How does that service work?
Are they a parallel lister, sanctioned by the owner?
Or do they operate independently, advertising on their own at the sellers BIN price, then hoping to bring buyer and seller together, but negotiating a margin?
What's the business model?

Probably like this one, that has been for sale now for over 2 years in my town here in San Diego
http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/ctd/2284882568.html
I stopped by there once to see it no interest in buying it, just curious, - it was a 10 x 10 storage space with a desk and phone, and was told they would bring it in for me to see - still waiting !

I don't think the guy is a scammer as much as a typical used car salesman. Here in Oklahoma, if you buy and sell more than six cars a year you must have a dealers license or you are taxed out the wahzoo. To get a dealers license you must have some sort of business address with mail, home business not acceptable. My nephew ran into this when he was just buying and selling cars for family and friends.
Example: Some old lady at his church stops driving and decided to sell her cream puff old buick. He takes it, fixes everything that needs fixing to make it absolutely perfect, then sells it for a good price for the buyer and the old lady even after he takes out his fixit up fee.
Anyway, at one point he was needing to flip some cars to keep his dealer license active. And bought a few older cars, and flipped em. He did always make sure the cars were in good running condition before selling.
Just sayin' they aren't all bad as they look.
on the other side, my next door neighbors dad owns a car lot. About 3 times a year my neighbor buys some piece of junk at the car action cheap. Cleans the crap out of it, including letting the interior bits air in the sun for a week. Then sells it through his Dad's used car license. He is not a mechanic and I would not trust one of the cars he fixes to get around the block. But they look fantastic. One of the cars he did was a Full size Blazer. It had over an inch of sand UNDER the carpet. You could faintly see the border patrol emblem that had been painted over on the door.
