BWMac:
If you really want to blow everyone's minds, toss the 4 speed a/t and somehow get some modern 7 speed Mercedes automatic back there with steering wheel paddle shifts. Leave the engine stock and just enjoy the power and sound for what it is.

my 2 cents...

You are so correct, think what a 7 speed would do. Love the EVO MR (6 speed)

when I got the auto in the Estate rebuilt + LSD they had a 722.6 there right next to it also being rebuilt.....the case size was fairly close, except for an extra maybe 4" on the tail..which I guess is the .86 overdrive 5th gear.....the ratios are nearly the same as ours with the overdrive.....

I was told the 7 speed is NOT anywhere near as strong as the 5 speed...which is still the trans MB uses in the 738ftlb twin turbo AMG 65 cars.....supposedly tuners have been told to not exceed around 850ftlbs.....since the engine can easily make 1000+ftlbs

I also think some of you did not read the opening post very clearly
if you want to do it right.. It aint happenin in a day...

Im a big fan if you are going to boost it you better to the head gasgets too... as well as a little more fuel supply too...

I would stick with the 928. The turbo s is going to hurt your back.. Ask me how I know. I dont know if I would go turbo.. The SC seems so much more straight forward. But I think the turbo may be more around town friendly.... its a shame you cant put a AC clutch on an SC.... But if you are going to do either.. I would have the Head gaskets done too...

Start to finish will be close to a month. I'm getting the car next Saturday, and will begin some of the maintenance items for Mac. Then the car will make the journey to GB where the real work will begin. The "fun" work will happen the last weekend when we get to go to the dyno and see a beautiful be born.

... almost brings a tear to my eye.

History says otherwise. Tim, Mike and I have performed at least 6 Stage III installs in one day. Here was the first:
https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...ng-dinner.html

A few years ago we took a stock 86.5 to they dyno for a baseline run, returned later that day with a Stage 1 kit installed and ran it on the dyno. The guys at the shop were quite surprised.

I'm not advocating anyone outside of the "Murf Crew" should try this, simply pointing out it is possible. With some of these installs the owner of the car jumped in to lend a hand, or other local 928'ers were around to assist.

On some of these cars there were random odds & ends that needed to be addressed outside of the kit install, but nothing major. It helps when the local import repair shop is owned by a 928 guru / collector that keeps quite an inventory of 928 parts.
It wouldn't be the first time I'm knocking on his door at 11PM asking him to open the shop

Got the car today with Andrew's help. It started on the 3rd turn after 6 months in storage and sounded so great with it's RMB. Noted 2 Turbo's in the "Hood". Difficult to wait till I can Kick ***.

Boys went to the dyno yesterday to get a baseline. 264RWHP and 265 RWTQ.

The car is bone stock with 57k miles and an RMB. Using an 18% drivetrain loss, that's about 320 at the crank. Maybe a bit proud, but certainly in the ball park.

(Not sure what that funny business is at the end, but I'm guessing the dyno operator forgot to hit the stop button.)
