Bertrand--

Local plating place here charges by the lot. Anything/everything that fits in the plastic bucket gets plated for the same price. If your place has the same policy, take off everything you can and get it all done together. I look under the car and in the wheelwells, and see all the corroded hardware that really deserves to look new. I also have to admit that my tastes and standards have been spoiled by Greg Brown and the work he and Rob Edwards did on the GTS stroker project. There isn't a piece of hardware on the car that doesn't deserve new plating, it turns out.

Shiny is good, but the GTS is slowly getting dirty again with use... If you want clean and shiny, wait'll you see the pictures of 90 S-4/Joe Cain's 'restoration'. He started with this:

Mine looks just like that one....yeah, just like that one. Except that the cosmoline marketing group had a clinic at the factory the day before mine was shipped. Plus all the white in those pics is black in mine. Yeah except for those things, mine looks just like that. Yeah...

So why am I continually scraping cosmoline and undecoating off of stuff under there? At least most of my plated parts there were 'protected'.

Yes, Rob's pictures of his (?) engine out of the car with all the original parts replated conviced me to go ahead and do something with fews parts on mine.
It was a real inspiration for me.

Thanks Rob.
I hope everything will turn out as nice.

Bob: The guy at the shop just took a look at what I had and set a approximate price of 100$.
I ask him if I bring only few parts if it would be less and he said "yes maybe 20$".
I guest he's quite flexible on his price.

Arian: Yes I pick up Yellow zink just like Rob's quadrant.

I will share that the yellow zinc plating starts decomposing as soon as it's exposed to anything at all acidic or salty. It goes to gray pretty quickly when that happens. You stil get the protection but the color and finish quality aren't as new. The cad iridite that the factory used seems more durable, but is harder to find these days, now that cad isn't allowed loose in the wastewater stream from the platers. If you can find a place that will do the cad, it's a bit more money. It also doesn't start out as yellow as the zinc, but is generally a more even coloring. Obviously the cad does deteriorate with the same chem exposures, but doesn't seem to go gray as fast.

Yeah I looked at the websites of some metallveredelung shops and their cadmium examples looked really nice. Unfortunately cadmium plating is no longer allowed in a lot of applications, including cars.

We found a place local to me (Burbank, Cali) that can do it. Referred by a local who has used them before. I think Dwayne has some stuff there now. We should get a good idea from him about how well they do.
