Default Throttle quadrant replating question

Hi everyboy.

I removed my throttle quadrant (and some other parts) today to have it replated.

My question is do I have to remove the bearings on the quadrant or can I leave them there and be mask or plug at the shop?
I have not yet found a place so I can not ask them.
The bearings work well so it would be good if I could save them.

If I need to remove them, can I remove them without ruining them?
Any tricks?

Thank you.

The place that will be doing your plating will be best able to answer that. I believe they can seal them of some how with a wax like substance...but dont quote me on that.

Thanks Tony.
I'll try to find a place around and ask them.
I would like to try to save them. Less time and less $ too.

I would remove the bearings, they can be pressed out using a pair of sockets, one with an OD just smaller than 10mm and one with an OD just greater than 10mm.

To reinstall them, you can do the allthread trick:

As prominent as the quadrant is, they really benefit from being replated!

Thanks Rob.
Please, how do you do it with the sockets to remove the bearings?
Also, what's the color name of your quadrant? Is it "yellow zink"?
That is exectly what I'm looking for.

Thanks again.

Get a new one...if thats all youre doing.

$50??

The insides..not a big deal.

You cant plate what the anode cant directly -see-.

Very little, if any, will get in there.

50$? For a new quadrant with bearings? Or only the bearings? Or quadrant?

I was wondering if it would "seized" everything together or not.
I want to do both hood hinges, hood latch - upper and lower parts.
I will take them apart as mutch as I can.
I think thats the best way to do it, Right?

Thank you.

The quadrant arms take 6 new HK0810RS bearings, that's $70ish right there. Probably worth saving the bearings if possible. Dunno what a new throttle quadrant costs.

EDIT: 928SP lists a new throttle quadrant (92811067702 ) as being $58. First time in a long time a Porsche part is cheaper than I would have guessed...

Maybe the plating process itself won't kill the bearings but the acid wash and the degreasing beforehand might not be so great for them. It's a 10 minute job to pull them out.

Here's a hi-res CAD rendering of the socket press: Smaller socket butts against the lip of the bearing shell, the bigger socket butts against the rim of the throttle piece. Squeeze assembly in a vise, which presses the small socket into the throttle piece, displacing the bearing into the cavity of the larger socket. Easy peasy.

Takes some pretty good force to get the pair of bearings to start moving, but gets incrementally easier.

FWIW, I had the hood hinges and hood latch plated, and on reinstall I sprayed some white grease on each hinge joint, no problems with the function of either afterwards.

Now I see.
At 70$ for the bearings, I'll try to save them.

Did you take your hood latch (upper and lower) all apart or left them all together?
Thanks Rob.

$400$ from Porsche would not be mutch of a suprise!

Make sure you tell the plater that you want the ball part cover and not plated. I failed to do that and the plating made it bigger and no longer able to snap back it the socket. After sanding it down it would just pop off with little force. I had to get some used parts and it is ugly again.

Took the 6 bearings out tonight. Look new!
Worked perfectly well using 8 and 12 mm sockets.

Thank you Rob for the trick.
Now I have to take everything to the plater.

I brought my parts this morning to a place in Ottawa.
It's called Zincon. Looks like a very professionnal place.
The guy said about 100$ for all.
Sounds right to me. What do you think?

Thank you.
