Mike - the bushing stays on the ball. The arm slides on and off of the bushing w/o much effort. I popped the bushing off. It's still pliable, and in one piece. I'm replacing it today as it was available locally (WorldPAC).

The clutch unit is a cool looking piece of machinery, BTW.
