Default 928 engine in another car

We see from time to time folks putting chevy engines in sharks. I'm not a fan, because I don't think non-928 engines look as good as ours (performance matters aside, altho I think ours are better performance engines too).
Anyway, I never hear of anyone dropping a shark engine in an American muscle or sports car (Tass' boat notwithstanding). I was thinking about this with regard to, say, a Mustang. I think our early engine would look great in a Mustang, with the spider intake, etc. Thoughts? Anyone see this done? I know one rennlister dropped a shark engine in a 914.

On the Datsun Z hybrid web site they were putting 928 engines (16 valve and 32 valve) in their 240Z cars. Then they put a Lexus v8 in the 928s. One of them was claiming he had a 5.4 litter engine in his Datsun and I wandered if its a GTS engine????

This is funny because I've never seen a 928 engine in any other car than a shark. I am hoping this thread takes off.

I remember a VERY long time ago reading about an upstart street rod designer named Troy Trepanier who had built an Orange 1950 Buick two door with an early model 928 engine in it.

I remembered this because, Troy is close to my name Trey and my dad had a 928 and an Orange 1950ish Buick.

I can't find a single photo online but I know he did it.

Artz converted 928 models by stripping off the original body, and replacing it with panels that mimicked the look of a standard VW Golf as closely as possible.

The car was significantly wider, and some of the proportions changed significantly as well (note the long rear overhang, and short distance between door and wheel arch). However, the overall look was surprisingly close to a standard Golf, making it the ultimate "understatement".

Ironically, the cd of the conversion was lower than that of the original, which resulted in a higher top speed for the Artz Golf.

While they were planning to produce 12 of them, it is said that only two were actually made:

...and here is a good example of the BS you find years later:

http://www.vw-one.co.uk/volkswagen_golf_928.htm

This Golf was not a widened shell - it was a 928 chassis with custom panels in Golf Look grafted to it. The only original pieces of sheet metal are the doors.

I would like to know if the 928 Engine would fit in my 911 Targa. I have an extra car to play with and know that would turn a head or two.

Thanks! I have a long history here...

Here is another video - looks like the same one that did the gas station burnout. Note the later style bumpers and chrome trim in the grille:

This appears to be a different one... sad (crash at 0:30) - it has the earlier style bumpers, but also chrome trim that the above photo car does not have:

I'd have to dig to find out why they say only two were made, but none looks exactly like the photo car...

I hope he chimes in, but 918-S crammed one in a 914. Others could probably add, but here are couple of photos I found:

I have a 1962 Fiat 600 chassis... Nevermind.

The size, weight, and rather low power output make it a really bad engine for a swap.......fun perhaps as a curiosity, novelty but not practical.
