Default Did the 14 pin connector..ah geesh..

Horray!

I have a working oil press gauge..

Oh wow..I have no temp gauge..

And as the engine warms up, the oil pressure goes from 5 down to 2...

*heh*

I guess I got somethin backwards.

SO..which two?

Oil pressure should drop as it warms up, that sounds normal, at least at idle. Does it move with RPM?

OH!

This does diagnose one more thing...

I wondered if the OP gague was stuck, or the sender was bad..well, I know the gauge isnt stuck.

Related question: does the coolant temp gauge sensor wire go through this connector too? Mine recently stopped working after I did several projects and at some point I had this 14 pin connector apart during this and might have got some wires backwards. Sounds likely that Speedtoys did as well.

I had that issue with my old engine, except the pressure guage would gradually drop to about 1 or less as the car warmed, and stay there.

The OP sender and housing was full of sludge. It's "low-spot" location kind of invites that... I installed a new sender and all was fine.

Yes, for all the years I've looked at, it's pins 3 (blue/yellow) and 5 (blue/green).

It can be fun to figure out the correct configuration of that connector if it comes apart and the pins fall out. The connector wiring is not shown in one place in the WSM wiring diagrams, but parts of the connector, which is designated T18, are scattered over a number of sheets. Plus the wire colors can fade quite a bit over the years from exposure to the elements.

Anyway, 87-88 are the same. 89+ has an additional wire (pin 7)

TOP (male pins)
PIN - WIRE COLOR/STRIPE - Function
1 - Blue - alternator exciter
2 - Blue/Black - oil pressure
3 - Blue/Yellow - coolant temp
4 - Blue/White - oil pressure
5 - Blue/Green - coolant temp
6 - Green/Blue - oil level
7 - EMPTY except 89+ Brown/Red - oil pressure
8 - EMPTY
9 - Black - AC compressor clutch coil
10 - Green - intake air temp switch for fans
11 - EMPTY
12 - EMPTY
13 - Brown - intake air temp switch for fans (ground)
14 - Yellow - starter solenoid

The BOTTOM (female pins) differs at:
7 - 89+ Brown/Green
10 - Brown/Blue

Jim's pic shows an 86. The 85/86 connector differs in:
7 - Red/White - auxiliary air valve
10 - EMPTY (in 12 instead)
12 - Green - intake air temp switch for auxiliary fan
13 - Red/Green - intake air temp switch for auxiliary fan
and top and bottom wire colors are the same.
