Default compression test at 141,383 miles w/ thrust bearing failure

Some of you may remember a few months back I bought 4 sharks at an estate sale, one being my gts. Looks like 2 are sold, keeping the gts, Dave Lomas and I have plans to do a cam swap here on the 93 in a few weeks. I'll post dyno results on the cams when we hit the dyno.
Anyway, the highly optioned 90 came with a thrust bearing failure, so alas I'm pulling the engine out in the hopes that I can salvage the block. But before I pull put the block I thought it'd be fun to see what the compression ended up at after 141,383 miles.
1- 157
2- 152
3- 154
4- 151
5- 155
6- 155
7- 157
8- 156

Pretty awesome that after all those miles, only 6 psi difference. Pretty well balanced.

Just thought I'd share.
More to come as I dig in.

i had a 535 that after 205K miles the compression was within a few lbs on the cylinders....
try that with an American car....

Shouldn't be a problem. That was a V8 right?

That's identical to what I got on my wife's 83S w/214,000 miles.

What cams are you putting in the '93? I've heard discussion of "S3" cams but not really sure what that means. I think that's what Roger put in his GTS. Will be interesting to see your before and after-dyno numbers on those in any case.

My car's running great at 142k, never checked compression but hope it's as good as what you found on your '90!

That is awesome comp! EURO85 is down on 2 cylinders and I don't think it is that high on any of the rest either. Those are great #'s! Bet that car feels STRONG on the road too!

Well, surprisingly when we took it on the first test drive, Bill Ball was with Kirt and I, and we all agreed the car felt slow...
And come to find out the thrust bearing was going out, so the extra friction could be the cause. when I get the motor pulled, Ill take some pics of the damage, hopefully its not too late for the block!

compression in the 150's is LOW for an S4 engine.....quite low really..... My 84 was in the 150's which is normal for the lower compression 84 US engine....a well running S4 5.0L will be above 180...some as high as 200 per cylinder.... all S4's with 200psi cylinders will be STRONG....Bill ***** is near that and so was Sharky (my old 88) and both dyno strong....

Although the numbers look low, the engine might not have been warmed up, or it was not done with throttle open, etc. Consistency cylinder-to-cylinder is the nice thing to see.
