That was ugly. real bummer!

Remember my race at laguna. Rylan had a broken rim all the way around the center, he lapped around to beat me, only having to run 1 lap, as I was also broke with a disconnected computer (vibration) that I figured out and took off after he broke and was in the pits. pretty hary driving around with a broken center.

If that was Stefanowitz, its about 650 to 700engine HP and all the RSR bits and pieces PLUS a turbo! very very fast. If you are running 1:44 out there, he might be close to being 10 seconds faster. I thin he has run 1:36s out at Sears.
that opening lap, was on pace for about 1:48 FYI off the rolling high speed start.
Yup..he heard & felt it snap..there was no concrete IN the wheel from the wall impact, it was tucked up in the wheel well on impact..

BUT..body shop says they can fix it..and Weld Wheels is onboard as a new sponsor...three sets of free goodness will be on the way soon.

If it broke on the inside, the wheel would have had to come off, was it on the inside of the hub when he brought the car in? generally all the force is on the left wheel on that turn and if a wheel was going to give out, then it would have come off the hub and just spun the axle like open diff, as all that weight would be on the outside tire. when things run away like that, it might feel like something breaking. I had one of those down the carocel a few years back. I had a flat, but the tire just gave way, but It also was on the outside tire under load. there will be no concrete in the wheel, but you would see some impact marks on the tire or rim outers. I no its easy to be monday morning here, but it seems fishy to blame a wheel for breaking at the hub, expecially a strong stock cast part. Im sure any thing is possible.
all I heard was traditional wheel spin on the exit, and it did what that sound would expect to do. its hard to hear anything break on the video, so we will have to take the drivers word for it. Im sure he wants to know for sure, so he doesnt risk the car again on the wheels if they indeed were the issue.

Mark:

Dunno what to say..cept..all i got is what the driver (who was in close proximity of the event) has to say...and wasnt an OEM part.

Was a repro set form a (now deprecated) sponsor thats been on the car for years.

All I said was "we broke a wheel"...not sure how this is turning into what MAY have happened from afar.

It broke, it's racing, hoping to get into the 1:30's in a pig of a GM chassis on the least $ possible.

Sorry.

is this your team or friend? should have been more sensitive.

Just seems strange that a wheel breaking on the inside rear, would cause this mess.

dangerous! If so.

do you have a picture of the wheel? were you there??

bummer, either way!

I'm just glad it didn't break when I was IN IT.....that thing puts down some serious POWER.... I think it was on medium compound slicks and they seemed quite grippy.....can't imagine what the SOFT would be like.....

The super-softs were ~3.5-4 seconds a lap faster.

The data shows serious jumps in MPH in every corner gained.

I just like to know how stuff happens. seems REALLY strange that a wheel would break on the inside wheel. also, if it did break, it would come off the car on a right turn. Was the wheel attached when it came into the pits on the tow truck? if it was, was it wrapped around the axle? also, its also common to have this wheel spin especially with big power at turn 7. also, that side hit the wall, REAL hard. break away slides sometimes feel like something broke. '
again, i just like to know.

as far as the car goes, Randy Mckentosh is running a camaro right now, and it *(and He) is really fast now. he is running the LS7 motor, with near 500rwhp now. Still on DOTs, he is running 1:46s too now. sounds like he could give ken a run for his money. in fact, he beat Andy Sukak at thunderhill at the last and first of the reborn, american V8 supercar race.
(andy was a little off though too ) But, non the less, Randy ran a 1:55 with his new set up. still american POS chassis, but lots of money in it now. pretty cool to run near his times now, with half the HP in a car still driven to the track! (and near 25 years old with no race bits )

His best qual time was 1:46.8, only a second faster than the old holbert car on beat up toyos and half the hp.

sure, with that kind of power, its a low 1:42s type of car, but set up is key once you get into the low 1:40s

Do you have any pictures of it? what is the car equiped with? suspension, sized tires, HP, engine, etc.

again, bummer to see it hit the wall, he should be glad it wasnt where I went in at turn 8A.

glad it can be repaired!

Im going to do the next nasa race there in GTS4 in June, or probably just in his SU group. I have a set of slicks im going to break out for the occasion!

If I get any good dry time to debug...I MIGHT have a wortha**** S4 with working kickdown-king-fu action.

Otherwise, I'll have a really loud S4 thats kinda doggish.
