They look great (depending on style)...they can be heavier..the car will accelerate slower...things will start to rattle over time due to the harsher ride.

But i love my "twists"..so easy to clean yet classic at the same time. Original Phone dial in 18 would be th $hit!

When Dan H (S4ordie) and Tony are finished with their cars those things not only will LOOK new, they will pretty much BE NEW!!! They are going to look FANTASTIC! Both of them!
And don't forget Rob with the beautiful stroker motor. That has to count as new.

I went from 16x7? to 18x8 and 18x10.
Surprisingly, the new rims are slightly lighter then the phone dial. But not enough to make a difference.

So:
Handling: +
Smoothness: ---
Traction: ++
Look: +++

In my case, the ride got quite rougher. For a familly car or a daily driver, I think I would probably prefer the 16" for the smoothness. But since it's my fun project car, I didn't regret the 18".

These tires are the quietest of the pack according to Tire Rack, and are .9" taller than OEM in the rear and .6" taller than OEM in the front. The speedo might be off a tad, but the ride will be better with that extra sidewall. If your going to spend the $$, go with the 18's, they look great on the car. T
Tony, you WILL want at least 295's on those 11" rear wheels... trust me. Maybe even 305's or 315's with those wide GTS hips. Ask me how I know.

What to do with the stock springs, Replace them??? to........?
It really depends on what you want/prefer. Some people find stock springs too soft, others do not. For example, many people swear by the Bilstein/Eibach shock/spring combo, but I have heard people say it is too harsh. I think you will need to experiment with what works best for you, keeping in mind on how you will use the car.

Barry, I just noticed you are missing your front spoiler...did you have one on it that was part of the kit and it came off or are you waiting on one...I vaguely remember a story about this...

Hi James... I got the car sans front spoiler. It took a couple of months before I realized there was supposed to be one & what it looked like!

But since I was going to do the AIR kit, I decided to not get a stock one. The AIR front valence was on my car for a few months until little spider-web cracks started showing up due to how low the thing was at the front edge. The back of the valence was stock height -even had the mounting points built in for the undertray and ducting for brake cooling- but that front edge caught everything ... speed bumps, parking stops, my driveway, etc. They work fine for race cars though -Tom Falkenburg has one on his yellow 'big bird' racer.

Now, I still don't have a factory front spoiler -I have a splitter from a 996 GT3 mounted below the bumper cover. I know I am risking the lower bits on the engine, but after what I did to the AIR valence I am a little more careful what I drive over.

BTW James, don't you need another '94 GTS? Seen that thread on the midnight blue one for $38k ?!? [edit: I see you've posted in that thread... it's a beauty! I wish I had that kinda' coin laying around!]

I too, took the recommendation of the tire shop and mounted 285's on my 11" wheels at first.

Going by the numbers it should have been fine: 285mm=11.25".

However when the tires were mounted, the sidewalls looked like zits waiting to be popped, offered NO protection to the wheels and the tread looked visually narrower than the wheel.

It just plain looked ridiculous and I'm glad I didn't drive the car that way -I returned them and got 295's instead.

But since Tony has a GTS, he can probably go 305's or 315's without any clearance issues.

Depends how you measure.

Your best performance is where tread matches the wheel width, which is NOT the external width of the wheel.

285 would be the..generally speaking, best size.

So..they were right, by the numbers at least.

Beautiful wheels. I have the same wheels as yours. These are the Carrera Lightweights. Carrera IIIs are something else with squarer spokes.

Since my springs were pretty "springy" and the shocks were "schocky" I just replaced the shocks and left the springs alone. I did check however if I had the stiffest springs available, which was the case.
