Anyone Familar w 86.5/ S4 in San Diego on Ebay?
I have watched this car listed 4 times now on Ebay. The pic's and miles 75K suggest it is a good value, but it has not sold.
The first time I saw it, it had no reserve, it sold for 7.5K, but the bidder did not complete the sale. After that there were two more auctions w/ reserve not met. There where 15 bidders each time and the bids ended at 6.5 and 6.4K. Now the seller is trying again w/ no reserve.
The pricing seems low for the model and apparent condition. What am I missing?

We are always accused of trashing cars, but there is $$ at stake and you need answers. It really needs a competent PPI. If the seller has stories, walk. The exhaust has been changed as well (single pipe?), usu a RMB still has 2 pipes. The passenger side center consol panel doesn't line up, look at the wiring behind there, could just be a sloppy radio installer.
They also added the bee stinger antenna.
OTH, I would hate to miss a good deal. If the history checks out, talk to the shop that did the TB, if the mileage is true and the end play is w/i limits, if there are no metal flakes in the oil, go for it, but I would beware. These similar auctions could be his shills. Why didn't he just offer it to the second bidder rather than re-acution it and get the same results?
You would be getting the '86 engine (assuming it is a 76,000 mile engine, etc.) which is most responsive to Porken's upgrades, but if I wanted S4 lines, I would buy an S4.

Well it has a GTS rear end + reflector strip, Aero mirrors and S4 front end. Quite desirable upgrades assuming not done due to major pile-up damage...
The engine looks tired like noboby even tried to spiff it up... seems odd.
Interior a little worn looking.. but who knows...
Someone needs to PPI it and take a good look underneath for frame damage...

What I meant by "S4 lines" is that although the rear says GTS, there are no flares. Also the photobucket photos of the hatch match the engine in neglect. That doesn't look to me like it has been garaged.

There are going to be stories about this car. And the fact that it's last major service was 2 years ago--wonder if the oil or any other fluids have been changed since.

The front cover does not wrap around onto the fenders and is probably an AIR fiberglass replica.....not nice for a street car. Rear looks real would question how they cut up the rear bulkhead to fit it since it is a major task.

Jim knows this stuff!
I went back and looked more closely at the pictures. The seal/glass in the rear hatch at the top is weird; the rear wiper is parked at right side, not a biggy, but I'm sure he has a story; truth is probably related to what Jim said on the cutting. I mentioned the passenger center console and there is more awry than placement. There is serious fading on the floor carpet that doesn't show on the removable side piece -- weird, maybe it just sat in the sun with the side piece turned down? Like someone said, the interior is a mess. $4,000 may be too much if you were going to make it right. As a DD, it might be good.

He just reposted on SD Craigslist : upped the price - only $7500 cash or trade for something else, local buyers only!
Must not be on here reading this thread, huh :-)

After all your comments I looked and looked at the ebay listing and it would appear that the car has not been driven in 14 years. When you check the history section, it shows 75K miles for '97. This is the current miles shown in his pics.

The part I really like about this car is that if you take a look at the open passenger door you can see everything has been painted over - Real nice paint job . This seems like a perfect example of a 928 you should not buy.
