79 door lock issues - update broken key/lock cylinder
#16
The white plastic connecting rod is intact The broken part was still attached to the white rod and popped off with so think the rod is still good.
I have been to austin VW a few times and always had good luck (pulling parts off Brians old car).
My passenger door lock does not even turn so may hit you up for rekey guidance when the time comes.

Broken Lock Cylinder Arm
Hello! I found this topic and it is exactly my problem. Passager side works perfectly but driver side wouldn't lock. The key activates the alarm just fine, but didn't move the ****. When I dissasemble it yesterday I found the broken piece attached to the plastic arm.
Can somebody help me find this part? Or will I have to buy an entire lock cylinder for this? If yes, does the cylinder without alarm has the same arm?
Please reply fast! I am way south and parts are really hard to arrive. Thanks!!

if you had a spare lock cylinder you could take this one apart and replace the locking collar,
the part is not available separately .
Practice taking the new cylinder apart first so you will know better on your lock.
OR take yours apart first an then transfer the lock cylinder and key sliders to the new lock.
NOTE to prevent more damage make sure the inside door lock **** surround is only tightened hand palm snug.
NOTE if you make this tight then it can bind the **** function, and then it will break the new pars.
also dont over tighten 2 screws that hold the inner **** mounting,
and also snug the **** screw,
use loctite on the **** screw in this case less tight is better
