14 pin connector question
Along with the timing belt operation I pulled the 14 pin connector through the passage behind the passenger cam cover. The connector wires were brittle and passing it through was difficult and strains the wires. The insulation on the positive side was brittle and will need heat shrink to repair. Has anyone tried a new routing for these wires on the front side of the cam to prevent having to pass it through each time? Seems to me it could make a loop on the front siide instead of going behind first. Anyone try it before?
Thanks,

That entire loom generally has "insulation" issues. By the time the insulation is falling off at the 14 pin connector, it is even worse inside the plastic, right where it runs below the upper radiator hose and in front of the water pump. I'd suggest gently cutting the loom open, right there, and inspecting it, before getting too worried about fixing it.

Those wires come up from the alternator area. They get brittle, oily, and cracked a lot. I rerouted the whole thing when I redid my front TB/WP job. I also replaced a lot of the loom wires one by one.

I'm pretty sure when I did the timing belt on my former '86 I never had to disconnect the 14-pin connector, so I think the early 32-valve cars are routed differently.
