Thanks, Tom.
From what I know, rear AC was available starting 1986 in the USA. Your pic shows a completely different configuration from my USA 1987 S4. The inner rear seat bracket bolts directly at the rear deck metal and is completely separated from the AC console itself.

The last pic of the dark upholstery has the same inner pivot for the seat back as my 83 Euro. Mine also had the 3 point belt rear attachment thread point. There should also be a threaded point in the ridge immediatley behind the seat back for fixing a child seat to - mine does, or it would have failed engineering inspection on import. FWIW, the seat belt bolts are 7/16UNF, but if you buy a 3 point belt set, it should come with correct type bolts and wave washers etc.
jp 83 Euro S AT 53k.

This is pretty interesting, I was not aware that a 3pt rear seatbelt could be installed. IIRC I saw a threaded hole up on the C pillar and wondered what it was for. How much is the replacement seatbelt?

Also on reinstallation of the rear seat cushions, would you use velcro to hold them down? I hate the glue that holds the cushions and leather pieces in place.

I'll be interested to hear how you reinstall the rear seats - mine are also out at this time. This evening I freed up the reclining mechanism of the seat on one side that was very stiff. Likely it had not been moved much in 23 years. The hinge and latches seemed gummed with dried lubricant, and perhaps some spilled drink. What surprised me is how complex the mechanism is and that the two allen bolts that secure the hinges to the seat on each side (the partners to the bolts that gave brief getting the seat out) are not the pivot points for the latches but rather run through tubes that are the pivot points. Any other car I've worked on would have taken the engineering short cut.

Using velcro is exactly what I plan to do. When I removed the lower seat cushion, some small pieces of foam got torn off and i had to glue them back. The whole lower cushion assembly is just glue galore. I would expect some kind of aluminum seat backing/frame so that it is bolted on and off.
I paid $120 for the seatbelts with the receptors from a dismantler. I do have a spare set that I paid $100 from a Rennlister that I might be selling.

Pelican has the genuine Porsche parts listed for US$170 or so. (I only know because I am looking for a set myself.)

According to PET, the part numbers are:
927 803 021 (03/04/05) (LEFT)
and
927 803 022 (03/04/05) (RIGHT)

Mounting hardware may be separate at additional cost.

I get enough rear-seat passengers when I drive my friends that it may be worth it to upgrade the belts at some point.

I have to have rear three-point belts to register the car.

I would use the brush on glue try Weldwood from HF,
trying to secure the seats with Velcro may not be possible

Default Rear belt puzzle

I'm fitting rear belts in a hurry so that I'll be allowed to use my 87 928 for a 600 mile round trip this weekend with the kids, rather than the allegedly more practical vehicle...

I purchased a pair of belts off eBay a while back for a reasonable £20, and have removed the leather trim to gain access to the Inertia reel. I've located the rear post mount, and found that the new belt clips lock into the old sockets so I can leave them alone. But there's an extra mounting bracket on the new belt (threaded onto the belt between the reel and the clip) that I can't find a corresponding hole for.

The trim over my reels have both a large opening that the current belt feeds through, and also a thin slot on the top edge that's obviously also for a belt- do later cars use this thin slot with a swivel mount to hold the belt in place? Should I just use the larger opening as before and just cut the extra mount off the belt? Help!

The thin slot on the top of those side bolster panels is not part of belt routing. Its just to tuck the seat belt latch into to stop it flapping around when the belt isn't being used.

Just stick the belt out through the same larger rectangular opening where your old lap belt was routed. The routing will be clearer if you plug the latch into the receiver during install.

thanks Hilton for the info on the slot, you will have realised already that I know nothing about 928s. Except that they are cheap to buy and great to drive.

I think I get the routing ok, it's just an extra bracket that's threaded onto the belt that I don't understand (probably just me being stoopid..) I'll see if I can upload an image to explain it better than I can.

Your belt looks different from the rear belts that I use.
