If it's on the passenger side it's likely an end tank. Welcome!
I didn't realize so few 87 5 speeds were out there. Pretty cool to know my #1608 is one of less than 600 when new!!

If you're going to try it yourself, lots of data here on the list. Critical point is to heat the tabs before attempting dissassembly, (or they break off) and have the right tool to recrimp when you're done.

If you try it yourself, search for a post by JHowell on doing it without bending the tabs. He did a pictorial of it.
I did it by bending tabs (twice) - next time I'll try his technique as otherwise broken tabs are inevitable.

Ha ha I had my 928 checked by a respected independent and I'm $12,000 lighter after 9 months
- timing belt and water pump etc - knew about that
- leaking radiator - didn't know about that
- power steering hose x 2 - didn't know
- motor mounts - didn't know
- sump pan gasket - weeping knew about that
- 8 x injector seals - didn't know about that
- air con rerefridgerant change - knew about that
- trans sump pan leak - didn't know about that
- oil seal rear crankshaft leaking - didn't know about that
- Oil sender - didn't know about that
Some other bits and pieces also. Still some minor issues to sort out in time. I've learnt that you can just look at the car and it'll cost you money.
Drives beautifully, makes me feel good in the morning when driving to work and I don't regret it

Who'd you take it to? Motorscience? If not, let me know who else in Auckland - always handy to know of more 928 mechanics.

rgs, that red car is awesome.
Ranfurly, you will love it when it runs.
The items listed are "to-be-expected" replacements, along with many more things.
If you do mounts, be sure to do pan gasket, for instance.
Hope both you guys are replacing fuel lines, very important.

Thanks Chris, I have not looked at the entire fuel system yet but I did notice a new braided stainless line just ahead of the intake. Need to access the entire system though. Here are a few pics of my wheel liner reconditioning. Good indoor work when the shop is this cold. Cleaned and conditioned with Lexol. My wifes bath tub did not turn out looking quite so good though.

Making some progress with the car. Shifter and electrical all sorted. Right now I am waiting for parts to finish the intake, MM, rack boots, and OPG. After that it will be on to the TB job. I did figure out that my coolant leak is the bottom blue plug and not the end tank. That is refreshing news as I can cross that one off my list.

Great job on the wheel well liner! What did you use to clean it?

Thanks, I go through a lot of "Lexol" on my cars. It really seems to dig in deep to plastics and rubber. It is made for leather but it seems to work well. Oh, and a lot of elbow grease.
