Thank you, Here is today's work. I am skipping around quite a bit while I wait for engine parts from Roger. I got one caliper painted, three more to go so I guess that makes it a four day job. LOL .. I do like the P 90 wheels instead of the original. I like how you can see the brakes with them and they also hide my ugly rotors. Cups eventually though. Who likes red brakes on a red car?, I was'nt sure but I think I like it.

Have not had any parts come it yet but I did start dropping some things for the MM job. I am stuck on the tie rod ends. I hit the drive side end very hard with a sledge and it is not moving(yes I did turn the nut over and screw it back on to save the threads). Next I will make it a 2 person job and get the fork tool while someone else hits from the top. I wanted to stay away from the fork tool because that might damage it for re-use. The tie rods seem very tight so I do not want to screw them up. Maybe they should be changed anyway? I am going to let them soak in PB blaster for a day or two untill the parts come in.

Fork works, lube the ends with grease. Just did this this morning at about 3 am. Did have to hit the fork pretty hard.
Folks recommend a puller instead of fork though.

Fork also is valuable for removing steering knuckle from rack.

Thanks Chris for the tip on the grease, I just got another good tip from a guy that has done suspension work for 30 years. He said if you give them a good wack on the side that will loosen them up.

I still have not got the tie rod loose but that is mostly due to not working on it. I was hoping it would fall out itself one of these days LOL. With warmer weather I did get back to project 928. I have a friend with a tie rod fork that I am waiting on. Most of today was spent cleaning and vaccum lines. Here is a question I have after the intake is done. Can I start the car without coolant? I drained it for the coming TB job. What I am concerned with is if I do not start it after the intake job, (and then do the TB), if there is a problem I might not know where to look first. I also want to see if the intake refresh improved the cold idle. It was idling about 1800 at start up for 30 sec. or so and then settling at about 850. I am very curious to see if the vaccum leaks I fixed took care of that problem.

No, don't bother starting it.

Your timing belt job has its own checks and balances (posting photos).

Do that, and MM, then come back and deal with intake.

I have a 32V car here, the Rip Van Winkler, that I bought on pure faith and didn't turn the key on the fiirst time for 7 months. Patience.

You already know it runs. Even if you need to go back into the intake to fix an injector leak, and need $25 of new intake manifold gaskets, you can do that later.

Thanks Chris, I will not try to start untill everything is done. I do want to get the intake back on while everything is fairly fresh in my mind. Then I will start on the TB sorting. Hopefully by the end of today I will either have the MM's in or the intake back on. I might be underestimating the amount of cleaning left to be done though. Messy job

Now the car is officially tore apart further than I ever dreamed. Finally got the MM"s out, it was harder than I expected. After a few hours cleaning and organizing tommorow I hope to have the new MM's and rack boot's on soon. Getting something completed would be great. I feel like I am just going uphill right now.

More progress, I will be finishing up with the MM, OPG, and rack boots in the morning. Cross member is back on so I just need to torque everything down and put the rack in yet. It will be a big relief to have one big job accomplished. I was surprised to get the rack boots on without taking the tie rod ends off. Do most guys take them off or stretch them over the tie rod ends like I did?

Thank you, God it felt great today bolting up the sway bar, marking the end of the MM, OPG and RB Job! I can now see light at the end of the tunnel on the intake and will soon be starting the TB job.

Here is my first look at the cam gears. They look much better than I expected. What do you guys think?

They look fine. Run 'em.

Check your crank gear and oil pump gear for sharp inner edges. Don't be surprised if the crank gear is worn out.

Nice work on the MM/ OPG / steering boot job. Yes, I stretch them over the tie rod ends after extensive cleaning in some cases.

The "Campaigns" MM/OPG/Rack; Intake w/ cam covers; TB/WP/Cooling hoses; Grounds, CE panel, Fan seal & switch contacts. Its a process.

Thanks Chris, I was hoping they looked good to a keen eye as well, hopefully the driver side looks just as good. That will save me a big expense and maybe pay for my x-pipe. I will look everything else over good early next week and post pics. I am getting real excited about driving the car but I want it to be sound before it hits the road again. You willl probably laugh at this, but I just learned today that the dash pod is adjustable. "newb's!

Finally got the timing belt out. Here are some pics. Do the white marks on the driver cam tell anything. There is a red mark on the passenger side cam. I am sure they are for past repairs but why would they use different colors. Maybe they had the cam gears off. The waterpump is only on about 20K and feels great so I am going to leave it alone. It is also marked made in Germany. From the paperwork it appears to be a OEM part installed at a Porsche shop.
