The car is one option away from being what I call the 'pre-GT, GT'. If you had sport suspension that would make it the GT type without the GT designation. I know of one in TX that has all those options.

Still a nice set pickup. Have fun.

This would also be early enough to have a squirter block, IIRC?

Depends on the engine number - last 5-speed squirter block is 81H00677 according to one of the Porsche documents. GIven the low VIN, its highly likely My RoW '87 with serial #1022 has engine 675.

I think the highest known auto squirter block is engine 81H06569 (factory doesn't list last squirter engine number for autos)

What are the advantages of the squirter block and why did Porsche stop using it? I hope that is not stupid question, I am trying to stay away from those. My head is almost spinning from reading 928 post's. I can not wait to get the car in the garage and do some work to it.

The squirter blocks are somewhat sought after for people with boost plans.. a squirter that sprays cooling oil on the underside of the pistons in each cylinder. Only on early '87 engines.

Speculation is that Porsche were planning a boosted version of the 928, but that the plan got shelved in the panic to avoid bankruptcy in the late 80's when they instead decided to focus on the 911 heritage and ditch the water-cooled model lineup.

That is very good to know, if the car turns out well boosting could be a possibility some day. Lots of other things to work out before I start thinking of that though. Hinton, can you give me a quick background on the x-pipe you have on your car? Seems to be a popular mod.

I thought GT's had different camshafts.

That originally the car probably had a Blaupunkt Reno radio. (Blaupunkt name each model after cities.. e.g. Hamburg, London, Toronto etc.)

Is the Reno considered a high quality stereo, and what are the chances of finding a good one?

They do, which is why I used 'pre-GT'. I consider a 87-89 with 5 speed, option 220 and 649(sport suspension?) a 'pre-GT'.

I would like to kill the guy who put the lugs on last. All were easy except for everyone of the anti theft lugs. I almost think someone would have had to done it on purpose to get them that tight. I can just see some punk in the tire shop sitting around after work and bragging to his friends how he tried to f.... up a Porsche today. Two of them came off with the special tool. One came off with beating a socket on it. The last one I am still working on. Every one of the anti theft ones were much tighter than the normal lugs. I had every bit of my strength using a four way on it before it stripped. After various 12 point socket tries it has now completely stripped down, so I am now in the process of drilling and doing what I can with the dremel. Already F...... up the rim.

Finally got it. It took a metal cutting hole saw over the stud to cut the rest of the lug away. What a PITA.

Wow! You first job on the car, removing the wheels, and it was 100x more difficult than it should have been?

Welcome to the world of 928! You're fitting right in!

I have taken off a lot wheels in my life but never have I had anything like that. I removed the wheel linings and front spoiler and all covers. Right now I am going over everything and looking where leaks are coming from. I did notice some fluid on the radiator. Will need to investigate further to see where it is coming from.
