Hi Brad, the project is active just at a pause (a long pause, I know).
Wheel testing was completed last year and the wheels passed with success! The test house said they are 'built like a tank'.
So next is production, which is a really big step in terms of time and money. Since my move from Virginia to Michigan, I've been able to settle in my business to where I'm steady again. But I still need to carve out a big chunk of time to initiate & manage production, and build wheelsets for those commited (kickstarter)
So next step for Project PD is to put together a plan to move forward. I'm going to start working on that.
Hi Vanster, your t-shirt level investment in the project was rewarded, and your donation was used for prototypes, manufacturer startup fee, and wheel testing.
Thanks to all of you who contributed because without you this project wouldn't have made it this far!
Supercedar, et al who haven't ordered but may be waiting to do so, the best I can tell you is I'm not prepared to take additional orders until we are closer to production.
Even then my first commitment is to the kickstarter team. Beyond that, we'll just have to see what happens.
And for everyone concered, frustrated etc... I'm sorry this project has taken so long. It started out as a hobbyist/enthusiast project and as such, has always taken a second-seat to my family and business.
I stay committed to the project and have faith that it will move to completion very soon. That's the best I can do for now.

I think its over your head right now. Its time to ask for help and pass this torch. Im sure there are plenty of us to source whats left. Im sitting in Boeings back yard with plenty of CNC machines 15' away. I would be happy to get quotes if these drawings exist. Please get out of the way? We are not looking for excuses, we are looking for DIALS!!!

It's been another year, the 5th anniversary of funding just passed (Aug 7). A few months ago, the original vendor apparently came back with a revised quotation, and multiple offers to help have gone unanswered. For us, this was a big deal, and to get nothing for it is not a satisfactory conclusion. But Jim holds all the cards.
This is not a 3D rendering, it is a prototype wheel. With a real sheet for a backdrop. It was that close.

Well that is bummer....it seems his business is doing well (928 Classics)...so why not get them done at least for those who paid up for a set?
It's a small community here, and I think he should step up and deliver!

The wheel vendor sent a new quote and then went silent. I'm beyond the straw that broke the camel's back with that vendor. They've dragged me around for years.
To move forward with a new wheel manufacturer first requires to source with rim sections as the wheel design unique to a certain vendor. I've requested supply through their proper channels, but they have also went silent.
So if new vendors could be acquired, the wheel design would need to be modified.
Then prototyped ($)
Then new manufacturing jigs ($$)
So more cost on an already over-budget project.
Way long story long, there is a lot of work that needs to be done, and I just don't have the time capacity to do it on my own.
I'm sorry to be such a disappointment. I just can't do this on my own any more.

JustMHO, but maybe talk to those who ordered the rims and see how they want to move forward...perhaps a refund of some or all of their money (over time if needed)..or work to develop a plan acceptable to all parties involved.
Truly a bummer ...those rims looked awesome !

There is another guy doing this. Not as aesthetic as Jim's IMO but still pretty cool.
