Default Source for Sunroof Clutch

Any idea where I can source a sunroof clutch for my 1990 S4? This is the short rubber pipe that joins the motor to the gearbox. I had a look on the usual suppliers websites but found no listings.

Prices in NZ for this are the same as 2 full tanks of gas! (about $230 US).

My old part is worn so that the motor turns freely withour affecting the sunroof. Sometimes it does 'grab' and then opetates the roof normally, including turning off once completed.

Cheers,
Myles

I can't imagine paying that much for fuel. I thought $50 was bad to fill up.

I am positive that you can get one for a fraction of the cost from 928intl with their half off sale right now.

Make sure that's the root problem before you put another one on.

I have confirmed that this is the problem and would prefer to instal an new one. DC Automotive list them for $30- but their policy of minimum international orders of $200- kind of kills the good price.
Gas is just over $2- per litre where I live so a tank is about $165 NZ.

I think what Chris is saying is find out why yours sheared off before you put a 100 dollar part in there.

As far as I can tell these are just an interference fit.

My best estimation of what has happned is that the clutch has slowly worn through use so that there is insufficient 'tension' on the gearbox shaft to over come the friction required to operate the sunroof. Of course the looser the clutch gets the more the shaft turns within it and exaserpates the problem.

The sunroof runners etc are clean and lubricated so that the panel runs quite freely. I have turned the gearbox by hand and with the factory tool easily without any problems.

The motor seems to run fine - it just seems to lack the grip in the clutch to exert enough pressure on the gearbox shaft. It is quite easy to turn the clutch in place without the sunroof operating (ie gearbox turning).

Myles
