If you want a 94, try to buy one of the last ones.
You're thinking of the '92 models that were sold in the US as '93 model years. There was a change from the 1R rods to the 2R during that period.

The 1R rods didn't necessarily bend under normal driving conditions and many are still on the road 17 years later.

The rods used in the '94 models were all the same throughout the run.

Yea, I bet there were VERY FEW bent rods. My '92 has seen several track days and has 135k miles on it (a great many of them at well over 150mph) and it has no problems...

They were probably over revved 5spd cars too!

^^^ I don't know how many engines with 1R rods have failed or have bent rods. I should not have brought the subject up, not my place I guess. But if I remember correctly the engine that had slightly S shaped rods was opened for other reasons and the rods happened to be bent, I saw the rod and it was S shaped, not enough in my opinion to be noticeable during a pan gasket change.

Sometime's it's not so fulfilling to be an ordinary guy who makes an ordinary amount of money.

That car is something.
Just curious why at 34k the rear seats are so wrinkled?
Now, I'm -nit picking.

Read my last post on this thread. I nailed the time frame for posting to eBay, but missed the sells figure (thought they'd try for more, guess $10k is enough profit).

The Mecum and Barrett-Jackson auctions are overrun with pin hooking dealers. The lone car enthusiast has little chance of getting anything there.

Wrong. 2R rods were taken into use in September 1993 IIRR. In any case after something like 1/3 of '94 MY model engines were made. This means early '94 MY cars can have problems as easily as any '92 or '93 MY GTS. This means 1/3 of real '94 MY cars, not just 19 first US model which were in fact '93 MY with just '94 VIN and M718 option code.

Would a leak down test show the alleged rod issue?

No. Nothing helps other than opening up engine enough to see them.

How many documented cases of the bent rods are there? This is always an issue every time a GTS comes up. I know of 2 local mechanics that are factory trained and over 25 years experience working on these cars and never once have they come across an issue on dozens of GTS's they have serviced. I wish people would stop harping on this as it seems to be more of a case of neglect and performance modded engines that suffer from bent rods.
