Default States that have the same Smog requirements

Just a thought...

Someday, I'm going to be looking for a Euro, but being "stuck" in California, I'm limited!

Are there other states that are "compatible" to the laws of Calif for smog?

This may help open my searches...

Thanks

Many states are considering adopting Calif smog rules, one of those things likely to change over the next decade or two as we all share the global warmth.

Don't get me started on global warmth...

We are on the end of a mini ice age. It just seems like its getting warmer..

So this wont help me.

Right?

Ours here in the seven metro Atlanta Georgia area are based on the CA standards, or so they say, but there is no visual except to see it converter shells are there.

On a ODB1 car, or pre ODB1 car, all it has to do is have a shell and a good gas cap, so if the numbers come out ok, you re good to go.

I rarely get the cat shell check, and even more rarely, get the gas cap check..but im always goin to the same guy, so that helps a lot too.

We use on of two guys, and on average do three a week, they check every one of ours here.

But they do not care if it is aftermarket or has a clean air number on it, it just has to pass.

I had my first call from the GA air board last week, strange call.
Customer comes in and says change the thermastat, we do, and now all of a sudden the air board is calling me, seems some one else told him that was what was needed, and because he wold not pay me for any diagnostic time on it, nor did he tell me he was trying to get it to pass emissions, just how much to change this part, that I have, from Autozone.

some counties in CA have far less strict smog laws....basically smog the car once when you buy it and thats it!! None of this every other year stuff....

Or just be like me and only own a 928 race car.....anything goes then!!!

Less than 1/2 the state of Wisconsin has smog laws and as of last year they only check ODB II cars.

We also have a "Hobbiest Registration" that allows you to register pretty much anything on wheels.

I posted a nice list of all things Global Warming related for everyone to keep track of:

And this little tid-bit from NASA, it seams they left out a tiny little calculation all this time about the warming climate and CO2....oops:

I dunno, I kinda like NOT knowing smog like my parents knew it before we did anything at all.

There is a huge difference between regulations for 99% of the cars on the road used for daily transportation and collector cars.

It's a shame most states cannot figure out a way to decipher between the two. The collector & hobbiest registrations cost a lot more than standard plates and have their own restrictions (cannot drive the car in january is one).

I would much rather see safety inspections over smog anyway. Seeing a car driving down the road with bald tires, rusted panels falling off but hey....it passed emissions!!!!! Yippie, talk about ***-backwards priorities.

I think that the states are smart enough to figure this out.

Just takes people being involved in government to do so.

Thats the challenge.

I'll admit...I dont write letters, either.

They'll have to throttle back all the hogs and cows here before they think about cars. With basically no people and lots and lots and lots of cattle and hogs throwing out the methane, Iowa has other problems.

Wrong! many states are dropping that **** altogether.

As for the next decade or 2 catch up on your news. Electric cars will be replacing internal combustion at an accelerating pace - Volt, Leaf, Tesla, Ford's entries and long haul and heavy duty trucking IS switching to natural gas right now. Burning oil to get from A to B will be a quaint reminder of times gone by.

There will be no need or economic justification to monitor "legacy" combustion powered passenger vehicles like 928's.

Check mobile combustion -- http://www.epa.gov/methane/sources.html

maybe they will start inspecting termites --Each termite produces, on average, about half a microgram of methane per day, a seemingly insignificant amount. However, when this is multiplied up by the world population of termites, global methane emission from this source is estimated to be about 20 million tonnes each year.
