Thanks all for the offers. I just want to clarify that they will be totally rebuilt and modified with the Engine Gauardian System installed only. I am not rebuilding to standard pulley design. The 16 valve cores can be used for the people who want a Porkensioner system on 32 valve engines also if I understood Roger correctly when discussing that earlier. Ed

unitfreebie: I can't remember whether or not I recorded measurements taken off the new Laso pump which I installed - I wasn't too picky about measuring it as it was a BRAND NEW unit, not rebuilt, so I didn't question its dimensions as many others recommend it. It was interesting though - I believe I compared all three pumps at one time, and all three had different pulley/impeller depths. I have pics of the three pulleys which show the difference in depth if you are interested.

OBehave, I would be willing to give you two of the pumps, I might keep a third for reference.

Yes, please post the pixs of the 3 pulleys difference depths... so you are saying all the pulleys were mounted at a different depth from the face of the WP and similarly all the impellers had different depth measurements?

Does anyone know the tolerances of the pulley/impeller depth as measured from what surface?

Also were you concerned that the impellers would work itself off and grind the engine?

Did the new Laso pump have any name/markings on it?

Thanks...

Do not recall any markings on the Laso pump, I will dig up some photos for you. I was somewhat worried about the impeller/what would happen to the cooling efficiency with different depths.
The pulleys were clearly different depths.

New Laso pumps are clearly marked with Laso and have the extra bush between the shaft and the impeller. Since January the Laso -20 pump (87 to 95) has the plastic impeller.
Eventually the -22 will have the plastic impeller once stocks are depleted.

Here are pictures of the pulleys as promised: first photo is the unused rebuilt unit, second is the rebuilt unit that came off my car, third is the new Laso pump which I am currently running. You can see a noticable difference in pulley depth between the two rebuilds, the Laso falls in between.

Interesting - hard to tell if they are actually different as they could all be different castings from different manufactures.
The important dimension is the distance from the center line of the pulley to the block.
This dimension needs to line up with the center line of the cam gears.

Plus or minus 0.25 mm the dimension on the new Laso pump is 35mm.

I just received the first early -22 Laso Water Pump with the plastic impeller.
Now both the early and late pumps have plastic impellers - thank you Laso.

I have a used non-rebuilt factory pump. It shows closer to 34mm, but could be affected by wear.

Tom,
I measured by eye so they are probably the same or pretty close..
There would be some tolerance on this dimension anyway.

So we have a datum point (Factory GPM & Laso) of about 34.5mm plus or minus 0.5mm.

Many Thanks for the pixs and datum point measurement... now I know what to look for!

Roger, what is the cost for the new Laso water pump (plastic impeller) and fuel hose kit for my car (1978)?

Hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving... but gotta lose some pounds before Christmas!

Early Laso with Plastic impeller is $275 and includes a Porsche gasket.
Fuel hose kit for your car is $91.50.
