Heinrich,
Its been good seeing you posting again. I will try and keep the front thread updated, but there will be a new pre-sale and product thread starting soon.
Until then, here are some quick pics I snapped on friday night. Troy let me use his car, mine is down at the shop, and I dont have factory speaker positions anymore anyhow. The tweeter installed here is a titanium version for contrast to help show the angle. The silk dome version is black and very discrete looking.
Will try and get some better pictures sometime soon.
Thanks
Hans

Hans, looks like a great option. I'm glad to see someone spending some serious effort making a suitable replacement. The Quart and/or Diamond replacements that fit w/o modification are getting tough to find. Kudos mate.

Chuck,
The tweeter assembly is three main parts. There is the base (which has the same bolt pattern as the factory plastic part) the tweeter, and the grill. The new injection molded plastic base has three bosses for screws using the Vifa NE (tweeter) bolt pattern.
Installation requires:
1) removing the factory grill
2) removing the four factory screws
3) remove factory tweeter housing
4) install the Vifa tweeter in the new housing with the 3 provided screws
5) connect the tweeter to the factor crossover using the stock harness or new wiring for crossover as part of the kit
6) install the new tweeter cup assembly using the 4 factory screws removed in step2.
7) install new grill by pressing it into the new housing.
Does that answer your question? If you go back to Post82 you can see the housing in detail with a silk version mounted in the housing.

Hi Hans
Any idea when the pre-sale production thread will start and deliveries would start? Now that I am finally the enthusiastic owner of a 928... I'm even more excited to get these speakers! :-)
Cheers,
John

John.
From what I understand, all the plastic lower grill inserts are molded. They are going to start stamping my round perforated grills in about 10 days. I need to get them back art for my grill badges before then... I need to get on that.
I have heard that the 4" speakers are due to go through the assembly line in about 15 days. I would imagine that process should be fairly quick, as our order is pretty small compared to the larger production orders this build house regularly gets.
After that, the drivers just need to ship to me. I originally was going to have them sea freighted, which is about 3-weeks. However, I do have the option of having them sent by air. I could have them 5 days after production... but that is going to add a couple dollars to every set.
Crossover design is being done here in-house. That will be complete long before the drivers arrive. I am planning on collaborating with Bamberg Audio on the crossover design. I have some basic tools ~$500 package which would yeild good results... but Bamberg has the industry leading measurement and crossover CAD package, and since they are local, makes sense to me to consult them on the measurements and design. Phil is out of town until monday, so next week we will start that work.
As soon as I have the crossover design complete, I will be able to get a bill of materials together, and know my true costs for the entire package. Pre-order will begin after that.
I put 50% down on the 4" drivers a couple months ago, and the other 50% is due at the end of production, so preorder pricing will be in place shortly to help offset that second large installment.
Thanks
Hans

Nigel,
Thanks for the link and the bump. Funny that the Clarus made the list. That is the "budget" derivative of the HAT line. The new 4" driver is two classes above the Clarus line. So, it really should be something special. Looking forward to getting these out in the community. Its been a long process since it started last fall, but totally worth it on a personal level. Not often you have the opportunity to work on such fun projects, where you have direct involvement and complete creative control.
Thanks again,
Hans

In order to get the measurements for the crossovers just right, I really needed a mock-up door to take the measurements from in an quasi-anechoic chamber. So, a quick email to Mark Benton, and I have an interior sheetmetal doorskin and matching doorcard on the way. If you havent had the opportunity to purchase any parts from Mark Benton aka The Nine Source I highly recommend contacting him for your next batch of used parts. Excellent service, excellent parts... I just cant say enough good things.
So with that huge assist from Mark, we should be in business to start measurements early next week!
Thanks
Hans
