Default PLUG/DISTRIBUTOR CONNECTION

Someone "checking" my engine pulled all the plug wires off the distributor cap on the right side (facing from the front). Can anyone point me to a diagram showing which plug wires go where on the cap? Thanks.

The cylinders are marked on the cap.

Exclamation No Marks On Cap

Rob: (or anyone)

I looked at the cap this morning when I went out to work on the car. There are no numbers referencing the plug/distributor connections that I see anywhere on the cap. Was this perhaps something done post '85 (year of my car)? Maybe I am just missing something but still need to figure out the correct connection. Again, this is the side with the number 8 cyl. Right side as you face the car.

Thanks again
Patrick

And yet another question. The cap and rotor were also removed. I can see how the three screws that attach the rotor connect. However, I am concerned about connecting them back the in the same holes from which they were removed if that is a legitimate concern. In other words, having the rotor is the same position as before removal. If it is a concern, am I lucky enough that it was designed so that unless I install in correctly the screws and holes will not line up?

Hi Patrick. Here is a picture of the location of the numbers. They are not on the dist cap but on the timing belt cover around the cap location. I have also placed a cap on here to show the orientation. Hope it helps.

There are also indicators for the rotor position when at #1 T|0.

You are right Patrick. The holes are not equilateral. The cap can only be mounted in one position.

OOPS! You are talking about the rotor and I about the cap. Although I think there is something else in there that allows the rotor to be mounted in only one position.

One bolt hole on the cam gear hub is offset so the rotor can only be installed one way.

Thank you all so much. As to the cap, am I safe it assuming that the cyls from front to back are 2,3,5 and 8? I know the one all the way in back is 8. Also, Porken, as you noted the rotor would also only go one way (aka the three screws lining up).
