Mythbusters Tests The Porsche 928's Aerodynamics... In Reverse
#46
Honestly, I wouldn't trust their times in any way, shape or form. How many cars do an 8 sec 0-60, and a 14 sec 1/4? Something ain't right there.

Would it be a rolling wing if run in reverse? Assuming rear wing/lip removed.
Rounded up front and rising and sloping back down and flat on the bottom. Creating heavy lift as opposed to downforce.
Just put wheels on this pic and you have a 928 in reverse.

Anyone know who owns the gray car that they used to drag race with?
I have not seen it around here or at any Norcal 928 events.
I wonder if they also purchased it along with the euro? If so it may show up for sale now that the show is done.
Pisses me off that they hacked up a euro. Understandable that they had to have a good running car to do the show but they could have found something else.
At least they had a lot of good shots of the cars running up and down Alameda Naval Air.
FYI
If anyone in the area is into autocrossing GGR does a lot of events at Alameda Naval Air Station.

Those asshats should be kicked in the nuts! That was the dumbest thing I have ever seen...and they destroyed a 928, Euro at that. There was too much human error involved, especially the last test, where both drivers put the car into nuetral when they hit 100mph. EPIC FAIL!

Don't know if he ever sold it. Mythbusters only rented it for the day. I've got his email still if anyone is interested.

The wierd thing with not saying porsche is that I remember an episode not to long ago where they used a 997 Cab to test the myth that if you keep the roof down and drive fast enought in the rain you do not get wet.
The funy thing is I thi nk they said it was a Porsche 911 in that epsiode. Maybe they got in trouble when they did that or something?

I "think" I remember the silver car from the last Devek Days a few years back.
I dig your avatar. Makes me want to have a Birthday every day.

Why does anyone think that Porsche would pay to advertise a car that they haven't produced in over 15 years? Next some people are going to be asking why Porsche doesn't take out any 928 ads during the superbowl.

I'm surprised these boys didn't try to prove the butt concept ala Greg Lougainis.
...now the red car...from the 10 meter tower, landing rear first, degree of difficulty 3.3..... oh no, too much splash

Lost Episode of Al Pata Segundo
Related, believe it or not.. the beginning of an alternate ending to the Al Pata Segundo saga, circa April 1, 2001... Enjoy
Right away, when my friends see two 928's parked next to each other, they say we MUST enter them in the Mask Races. I don't know why they suggested this, other than because the cars already look unusual. In the Mask races, the cars are unusual because of modifications done to them to disguise them. The epitome of which is considered to mechanically alter the car to run backwards. Ben, without realizing it, made the mistake of quoting some article on the aerodynamics of the 928 being better going backwards rather than forward.
Right away they start crawling over the car, asking me how things bolt together - most of which I didn't know, but Ben did. He keeps feeding their fever until he sees that these guys were SERIOUS! I think that if a set of tools were available, we would have both driven home with our seats swapped backwards on the four bolts they mount on the rails with, a manual gearbox reconfigured to have 6 backward gears and one forward gear, and some sort of steering mechanism sitting in the back seat, in "front" of the driver, having snaked it's way from the dash. They were already plotting and figuring it out and assuring me that it could all be undone. The windshield wiper in the back didn't help things any. Luckily, I did not have as much Mescal as the rest of them. I knew I had to drive a very special car safely back home, in the forward direction.
