Thanks team. Work completed so far includes replacing all 4 tyres, all filters, all fluids, the cam belt, headlight bulbs (expensive H4 units!), masses of small remedial jobs involving fuses, bulbs and such, removing a spot of rust above the fuel cap and fitting some LED daytime running lights.
She makes some funny noises at times (whining from the 3 speed transmission I think) and doesn't want to kick down when I floor the loud pedal, but mostly she's good fun.

Check the fuild level on the transaxel. If you havn't done it, change the fluid and the filter. The whining can be torque tube bearings or torque converter carrier bearings. Be sure and check your flexplate for tension. (see TBF) Although the '84 and older sharks don't suffer from TBF as often as the '85 and newer, it is still prudent to check the tension and make sure the clips forward of the flexplate on the end of the driveshaft are present.
Check the bowden cable for proper adjustment. These stretch over time and kickdown suffers. My car shifted horribly (wouldn't kick down, shifted up way too early) when I first got it. Tightening the bowden to have about 1mm of play before the throttle plate moves it cured my problems pronto.
If the car runs rough at all, first thing to check are motor mounts.
Good luck with this gorgeous car.

I tried, but I don't seem to have the option to add a signature. Perhaps this is something that either needs to be added by a mod, or is only available to paid forum members now?

It does ride a bit rough and I'm sure that changing the motor mounts would improve it 100%, but that's not a job I'm wanting to embark on just yet. Rear shocks could be firmer too. I'll take a look (or get my mechanic to) at the bowden cable. That's a good tip, thanks again.

As for the number plate, I believe it's binary for '10', but there's more to it than meets the eye. Sounds like a previous owner was fond of a bit of velocity and he used to stick the plate on upside down accidentally so that the law enforcer wrote out the ticket incorrectly. As added insurance, it's in alpha rather than numerical characters, so it's ooioio not 001010.
Dodgy, dodgy.

Being a software guy that's all I could ever see when looking at the plate, so I was assuming there was something else (or at least least a story behind choosing 10/A/linefeed/etc) ...
Classic Interestingly, the plate "OIOIOO" has never been used ...

Countach was the other poster on my wall. It's still a long way off...
I've added an engine picture. It needs detailing here, plus a bit of work. It blows a bit of smoke at redline revs, the power steering is not all that effective and the aircon could use some attention. Still goes like a cut cat and handles beautifully. The paint is original. I think it was stored by the previous owner when it needed tires and some other work done and he never got around to doing anything with it. I'd love to put a front spoiler on her, but they are SO expensive!
