Default Anyone..door panel light wiring?

88 S4 Auto

Left my WSM disks at work..grr..

Three plugs go to the courtesy light in the door panel near the footwell.

Red
Br
Dual Br/Wh

I know the red goes to the single post towards the rear of the door, but does it really matter which source to ground goes on the double posts on the front end of the panel? Its just switching auto/off/on, right?

In the door lights it wont matter what way the brown and the BR/WT wires are connected.
It will matter on the roof lights and this can cause a short and fry the wires since the roof lights are touching ground .
the door lights are not touching any metal nor do they have a metal frame

It doesn't matter...

In fact you probably want to arrange L & R to be cofigured differently - since they are in opposite orientations if you are to have the switch position set up so: up = on & down - auto on each side - then you need to wire those connections opposite from side to side.

Don't those feed power to the lights in the door jams?
(I think that's what the lock lights are.)

Might be, but the drivers door didnt have that 2nd red wire to the footwell light...it wasnt poking out the harness to the light at all. But Hmmmm...

And..those will be a separate project. Ive got door ding working just fine..but no interior lights. IIRC, only about 3v to the light when I put the tester on it just to see.

But now I clearly see why there are two Br/W grounds...so that 2nd red wire on the drivers side -has- to be in there somewhere.

to complete the door light system there are red warning lights in the rear sides of the doors ,
these are also powered off of the interior door light power supply

Yep, and oddly enough, the red lights are on the delay timer and stay on after the door's closed.

I was doing something in the door, closed it and puzzled for a few minutes over why I could see a light on down in there ;-)
