Magnecor KV85 on a 1988 SE (US P/N)
Does anyone know which Magencor KV85 lead set I need for a 1988 S4 SE (US part number)
I'm not sure whether it should be 85217 or 85218.
1988-1985 928 (32 valve engine) 80217 87217 85217
or
1995-1989 928 (32 valve engine) 80218 87218 85218
My immediate thought was 85217 as it's a 1988 but not sure if the US model designations are the same.
The US prices (8.5mm) are half that in the UK (7mm). Madness.
My intake refresh is going swimmingly.........at the moment.

Afaik the only difference between the 88 and earlier 32V and 89+ 32V is the coil connectors on the coil leads. There is more than 1 change to coil part numbers over the life of the S4/GT/GTS models.
To be absolutely certain you would probably have to send Magnecors a photo of your coil leads to confirm which type of connector they have on which lead set.
The new Beru lead sets seem to come with 4 coil leads to cope with this variation.
I bought my Magnecors KV85 leads back in 2001. At the time Mag US wouldn't sell 928 leads but Mag UK would - they were about 200 quid IIRC.

discusses it further - the pic in the first post shows the wires for an 88 with dis cap connector at the top and coil connector at the bottom. The later coils have a pin in the middle of the post requiring connectors like the one at the top of the pic,
