Default Oil in tps???

I'm replacing the tps on MY 86.5 and thought I'd open the old one up just to have a looksee...after carefully separating the cover from the body...oil spewed all over, the thing must have been full! If it didn't happen to me I wouldn't have believed it. Has this happened to anyone else?

that happens when the seals go bad, often the culprit for failed TPS's later down the road.

Yes.
Search on "TPS".
You will find this and much more.

BTDT, got the T-shirt. Common on the 944 turbo... spray it out with brake cleaner, glue it back together, maybe change the oring and back in business.... Bruce

What one needs to determine is if the electrode is cracked beneath the plastic layer causing poor operation.

You boys might be doing just what I did three years ago.
Have the board dialogue.
Ignore the search.

Man, did that get me into rework mode.

Thanks for the info.
Right you are Speedtoys...maybe I should drill a small hole in the bottom and screw a drain plug in...after adding a quart of fresh oil to keep it from rusting with everything else! (it does help to have a sense of humor)

That is normal, while you have it apart, you should get two new throttle bearings with seals built into the bearing from Roger, 928sRus, they are the same as the bearings on the flappy on 87 and up manifolds. Do a search, Dwayne and Mike Frye did a write up on replacing these bearings on the throttle body. To eliminate this, I installed the 928Specialists Shark Vent system, no more oil breathing into the intake system, no oil in intake manifold anymore!

Post 28 and 29, not saying its your problem, but its worth knowing that "flush, assemble, seal and go" may not get to the bottom of some known past issues with TPS.
