starting with stock GTS cams to have profile work on them is probably the worst cam to start with.
I find it odd that you would have that kind of work done and the work involved in removing and refitting them and not have any concept of what the cams do based on you not knowing what any of the numbers involved have to do with anything.
Sounds like having work done just for the sake of doing work and spending money. I hope you get your money out of the cam swap but something tells me your going to be very disappointed.
Andy, what are Dr.Nicks cams? are they regrinds, if so off of what base cam set?

Actually....
GTS cams are the only (beside the GT model) S-4 style cams that allow the lobe centers on both the intake and exhaust to be set-up at 112/107.5 or 110/110. The GT cams (as are many modern high performance camshafts) are also ground/have the sprockets cut so that you can end up with 110/110 intake and exhaust lobe centers.
I think you will find that the rest of the camshafts leave a bit to be desired, in terms of lobe location....

as always there is something to be learned (or is it learnt? I HATE ENGLISH CLASS) in your posts.
In this case, now I have no idea what the numbers you mention correspond to and why they are desirable or not. I will get on the 110 degree lobe center map shortly.
I lost track now with the sudden availability of cams for 928's in the last year. For 5 years everyone was hunting down GT cams and there was no other option, then the S3 modification came about because GT cams cost to much. Now there are 2 different people I know making cams from blank's as well as a suddenly high number of people reprofiling or modifying cams for more power.
I guess I need to read more on the subject, this has in the last year changed quite allot for 928 owners. Which is great of course.

Roger: That sounds like fun!
I think mine should be similar.
The cam tech told me (just as you did Greg) that I needed lash caps if I wanted more aggressive cams.
I gave him 4 S4 cams.
He said they needed lash caps if they were to be worth investing money in.
They only give 0,5mm lift sans lash caps.
How far can we go with lash caps?
1,5mm..?
2mm..?

2.0 will sometimes just start to get the oil grooves outside the range that the head/lifter can handle. You will need to measure each application and make sure that the lifter gets oil when sitting on the base circle.
I've had made (and stock) lash caps in 1.0mm, 1.5mm, and 2.0mm.
