Thanks Mark!
Outstanding pictures Dave! We were crawling along at about 55 mph just before the 57/60, I was waving wildly to get people at least 2 abreast. You were one bridge farther north than I thought.... D'oh!
Passed the Honda shortly thereafter....
Perhaps next year we can just do a flyby shoot/video on the overpass just west on Miraloma there. On Saturday, when everyone's around to participate. There's a little room for getting up to speed there.
I ended up turning around about 3 miles later and you were still on the bridge as I was coming back headed south. Had I known you'd still be there I would have been in 3rd gear under the bridge...

I think that would work great if we had say at least 16 cars to take 4 lanes. I guess I was fantasizing about the sort of epic fundrive turnout that we had in 2005 when I visualized this:
I'll have to see if I can find the spot you're talking about. Part of the appeal of doing this(for me anyway) was that it was to be the cars on the fundrive. I see your point about trying to do something on Saturday to be more inclusive... maybe both? I can't do video and stills at the same time(can't do high quality vid at all) but I think we should try to encourage anyone so inclined(and equipped) who wants to get in on it.
And yeah, I saw you come back by, I was just kicking back, having a last smoke for the road and reviewing images when I heard then saw you zoom by.
Dave what an amazing set of pictures. You really captured the moment and allowed those of us that couldn't make it to live vicariously through those pictures.!
Damn Dan, that Z Rot car looks drop dead gorgeous. IMHO that is hands down the best color for the 928 and sadly there aren't many out there in that color. If it was a 5 spd I would probably be stalking you to buy it! You need to post some detailed pictures of the engine, wheel wells, interior and of course some close ups of the body!

Oh, and did you say detailed engine pics? How's this for detail? (cropped to actual pixels from one of the above shots)
Thanks, there are lots of good pics throughout this thread. One thing about overcast, if you get the white balance right the colors have a depth that you just don't get in sunlight.
Thanks Afshin, high praise coming from you. This car is the only production 928 in Zyclamrot Metallic. Ferry's four door Estate is the only other one. A 911 and 944 of the same year (1990) were also painted this color. They too are one of one.
The color really shifts depending upon the light. In the garage is looks reddish brown. In bright daylight the metallic really sparkles and gives it a pearly appearance. In overcast it is this rich bright burgundy color. More pics to come once I get the car cleaned up after it's trip from SoCal to the Valley of the Sun.

I have to say that photographing that paint is quite a challenge. When the car is in motion, or the observer is free to turn their head and move around, there is an almost "alive" character and subtlety to the paint and I have to say that it's damn frustrating to have failed so completely at capturing that character. That's not to say I hate the pics, more a way of saying there is so much more there there, in reality. Amazing find.
BTW, I think the answer to your stroker question is "Yes, but not in this car".

Although I really like the fact that the fundrive was small and more intimate because you get to talk to everyone on the drive, I'd love to see more participate. I'm sure the rain had alot to do with the turnout this year. Maybe we could get some vendors to donate some cool PRIZES to be randomly (by number draw) givin away at the mid-fundrive luncheon to spur participation... I had a blast on the fundrive this year. I can't even imagine how amazing it would be with a very large pack of sharks on the open road.
I'd be willing to help organize....

The zyclam 944 was an active taco tuesday guy....he even loaned a set of wheels-tires to rich at a trackday years ago when Rich got a flat...I can't remember his name, but I will look for it

WOW!! Great Pictures!! However, it looks like just about everyone in the pictures has white hair, gray hair, or no hair. What's up with that. I think the only guys in the pictures with regular hair are the same two guys. Wish I had been there. I think I would have fit right in. Jerry

Great Pics Dave! Dan's car is definitely a fabulous color-I have a truck painted "black Cherry Metallic" that is kind of like that, but his paintjob is just soooo much better. Hope to see it in person someday..
Your car looks really good too...

Dan,when are you bringing the car to Canada?

OK Dan - I must admit, I'm jealous....Holy smokes that car is gorgeous! Your wheels turned out great, too, BTW.
Can't wait to see it at 3rd Coast. We need to get the non-standard reds lined up for a group color palette shot:
See you soon!
