Tires, tires, tires...16" options.

Fuzions were the only option last I checked if you limit the search to high performance tires with the correct speed ratings. Unfortunate that we don't have any options available.

I have just put new 16" continental contactsports on both front and rear in the correct sizes, the rear ones had to come from Germany as the size is not imported into the Middle East.
Before there was a mixture of Pirelli and Michelin, the rears being 245/55 rather than stock. The fronts were made in 2007 and even though the tread was good the sidewalls were cracking, the rears were 2003 and also in a similar state.

Guys, Bridgestone RE960AS
But for the rear just go with 245/50 16 on the back instead of 45. Wonderful speed rated tires.
Here's a set on an S car with S4 wheels:
In fact, that rear size gives you several more options.

I noticed Tirerack.com doesn't sell Toyo's - so to many it may appear as if there's only one choice.

I gotta be honest here, I'm deaf as a post without my hearing aids. And I shut'em off when I drive, they pickup everything. So I can't say if my Fuzions are noisey or not.

I use this web site for tire calc comparisons: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php
I will be going with 245/50/r16's on the back of my 86 stock 16 inch rims. Staying with 225.50/r16 on the front. Only 3.2% difference (increase in circumference size), which at 70 miles per hour I'll know I'm going 72. The .79 inch taller difference amounts to only .4 inch difference sitting height (actually could look pretty nice). The 8.9% increase in width will be awesome. There are very few options in the 245/245/r16, much more choice in the 245/50/r16. This is only until I can afford to get into a set of 18 inch rims and tires.

I just went through this at Sharktoberfest... arranged with Discount Tire (Tire America down in your neck of the woods) to replace the rears 245/45/ 16's on my GT. I have the Yoko AVS ES 100's and was trying to get new rear ones. Discount up here checked with the Yoko warehouse in Fullerton and said they had stock in my size. Arranged with Tire America to get them and tried to set up an appointment. When I got down there, I found out Tire America couldn't sell me the set since they were "discontinued" in 07. I went to the actual warehouse and talked to a sales rep who told me they discontinued them but still made some and he arranged for the Tire America guy to come by and get them. The Tire America guy got there, saw they were 07 date code, and told me he couldn't sell them.
I tried Becker Tire who also sold the yokos he couldn't get them direct from the warehouse either. At this point, I asked...what do you have that will fit my car. After a search, he found the Toyo Proxes T1S's in 245/45/16. I set the appointment up and now am running the Toyo's on the rear. These were nearly new (2010 date code) and I'm pretty sure they carry the 225/50/16 too. Give Becker Tire a call... mine ran $189 each (a little high), but the T1S has a good reputation.
