Default Speaking of SBC Conversions - LT1 Power

Check out this interesting LT1 powered Euro 1986 F/S: http://bringatrailer.com/2010/10/16/...6-porsche-928/

BaT Exclusive: LT1-Powered Euro 1986 Porsche 928

This 1986 Porsche 928 is a Euro 5-speed car that has been given a professional Chevrolet LT1 engine conversion. The seller tells us that this engine is lighter, more powerful, and easier to work on than the original Porsche V8, and features Edelbrock aluminum heads for performance and weight savings. The car is a daily driver that is fully loaded with options including 12-way power/heated leather seats, limited slip/locking differential, dual a/c, power windows, power sunroof, alarm, Porsche short shift kit, and Brembo brakes. It is available in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for $13k.

Should've finished the work by replacing the back panel stickers with "Chevrolet"

Looks like a fun car. I hope they did mount the correct tires on respective wheels. The front and rear wheels are switched.

Nope, it was a low compression 32v Euro. Pretty sure that's the one I know from Black Forest Racing. Many fun emails back and forth with the owner of the shop as I was working on buying the motor thinking it was a Euro S only to eventually find it was the low compression 32v.

A stock LT1 is a lot less powerfull than a stock early 32v, ALOT. I had both so this is first hand experience.

Which LT-1 are you talking about?
The one they put in the 92 vette were rated at 300 HP/330FTlbs.
The worst thing about them are the opti-spark setup in the late LT1's.

It is a step backwards as far as power goes and possibly a step backwards for reliability due to the Opti-Spark setup.

Early F body LT-1's were 275 hp/325tq. Rated at a little less hp then an early 32V 928 but on the dyno I suspect the 928 would have 20 - 30 hp more at the wheels.

The early F-body ones....but they are pretty much all the same. Yup, the Opti went on mine too. When my 928 was still stock and still had my '93 Trans Am, the 928 was waaaaaay faster. The best I could pull with the LT1 was 14.2 and the bone stock 928 did it in 13.7 in the qeater.

I think if you are going to do this use a motor like a LS1/2/3/7/or 9 and even you can buy used SB 2.2 engines that have been freshened and converted to roller cam and use the small heads used at Martinsville. Expect 800 hp with a excellent dry sump system.
