If you want to restore a great 928, enter here.
As some of you may know I inherited this car from my dad about a year and a half ago when he passed. He had the car since new and it's always been part of the family. When I inherited it I rescued it from the garage it had been parked in for around 3 or 4 years. Started right up with a new battery. Well as much as I love this car it is in need of some repair to bring it back to where it deserves to be. As you know parts are very expensive and I just can't do it. I'm hoping someone on here might be interested in purchasing and restoring this car. I don't want it used as a parts car especially since it runs and drives so well. I will only sell it to someone who appreciates this car and plans on fixing it up. It has to be garaged like it has been since new. I would ideally like to have someone who could email me pictures of their restore and pictures when it's completed.
Here's what's wrong. The car runs and idles great. It does have a rattle at idle and when you shut it off. Sounded like a heat shield but others are telling me it could be other things:

The headlights go up and down fine but do not turn on. For awhile they would go on after awhile but that has since stopped.
The drivers seat is torn and the seats are a little dry. May need some conditioning
paint is in decent condition. Has some spidering to the front bumper. There are also some scratches and scuffs but I think most of it will buff out. I also saw a small rust spot under the rear corner window. Only rust I saw.
The chin spoiler is broken on the left and right sides. I think it could be glued back together again. I had it glued and it looked perfect til I hit a curb.
The dashboard has some cracks
The odometer stopped working at 106,000 miles. It was this way when I got it in 2009. I don't know if it has in excess of 106,000 or the odometer flipped to that. I thought it had around 80,000 when it was parked but I'm not sure. I have probably put a total of 300 miles on it.
The auto shifter leather has a small tear
There is no drivers side floor mat, just the carpet underneath. It was in bad shape so I threw it out.
Radio had been changed out to a newer Sony. If you turn it up really loud the speakers cut out. I think the radio has too much power for the speakers.
Sunroof is a little slow to close, closes better with a little help. Opens just fine.
A/C, not sure but I think it just needs a recharge. You get a click when you turn it on.
Clock does not work properly. Dispalys fine, sets fine but has a mind of it's own.
Things that work great: Engine, Brakes, Transmission, Wipers, Washers both headlight and windshield, All other lighting (except headlights), Power seats (both sides), Heater/fan, steering is tight, tires have good tread left, rear windshield wiper, headlights up and down, Doors, hood and rear lid open and close great and are tight.
Here is a link to the photo's if anyone is interested

I am thinking the same... headlights are probably a relay. A/C probably could use a recharge but obviously is leaking at least a little bit or it would be blowing cold to this day...floor mats are EASY to find and you can usually find some used and cheap. Sunroof is NORMAL...most all of mine are that way! Even one of my GTS's acts like that. The rust at the rear Qtr window is not good, but not uncommon. Normally means the window has been removed at some point and that the gasket on the new one was not seated properly... BTDT! Drivers seat repair if not to far gone is cake by ColorGlo or one of the other leather repair places... If the leather is a bit dry but good it MIGHT come back to life with some Leatherique and proper and consistent application (good coating of it...cover the seats with plastic wrap, crack the windows a bit and leave it in the hot sun!) That would pretty much take care of the car. The crap digital clocks rarely work...and just don't turn the stereo up so loud... DONE! Maybe $1k or $2k at the most worth of work needed... Oh, the front spoiler might be a bit more work...if saveable you would need to rivet plates in from behind to hold it together nice and tight and then find some sort of flexible filler to fill in the cracks fully... again that could be a really cheap fix...

Wow, I agree with LandSeer, especially from the pictures the paint looks great (better than mine..).
I think with if you have some mechanical ability and a place to patiently work, you can refresh that car and get more for it if you truly are committed to selling it. Looks like some quality parts on that car also (Looks like some late model Headlights on it.).
That could be the reason they are not lighting up. (Im no expert on these cars) but I believe your model year came with 7 inch lights and a plastic trim ring. The headlights you have look from the picture (second one) to be H5 (or later model) lights, and they are wired differently. Confirming the wiring would be the first thing I would do, and this can be done by carefully removing the rear covers (with the lights in the up position, you should see retaining screws for the headlight rear covers), and then confirming your wiring.
And if those are the only real issues (the ones you have listed) you may be closer to enjoying this car than you think..
Best of luck (PM if you need any specific details or search the forum for Headlight conversion info).

I think I am committed to selling. I don't drive it enough and think there would be someone who would truly appreciate it. The headlights I know are original, don't know about the rear window being ever removed. The car has never been in an accident. I wonder if the car has ever had a repaint though, there was quite a long time my father and I did not speak. I don't really notice any spray lines but then again I don't know much what I'm looking for. I can easily work on my other car (1959 Impala) but this is not built like any car I've ever worked on. It is very different. Besides, I could use the room in the garage.

My mom had a 4-dr 59. Always complained. "Bob, the transmission keeps slipping" Dad tried it. Trans was fine, but the bald tires would spin with no noise pulling out. 348 would do that on those old roads.
I'd love to give that 84 a home, but funds will be short for a while.

Good luck with the sale, your pictures look nice. I can tell you that your seats are in far better shape than mine!
Really? My sunroof closes plenty fast for me. Oddness.

Burning Brakes
From the pictures it appears to be in better shape than mine is now, and certainly better shape than the '85 was when I got it.
You really do need to throw out a price to keep this post from being closed, but also to let people know what you are thinking/hoping to get for the car.

For a decent 84..sure is... pending a PPI of course... and you'll need to be a member to actually post a for sale here..
Good luck in the sale..from the pics, the car looks good.
