Default Got a couple issues maybe you guys can help with

First problem is the headlights go up but do not turn on. Ever since I took it out of storage a couple years ago they were temperamental. Sometimes on and off would work after a few times, last time I popped the hood and started tapping on things. I tapped an electrical connection near what looks like the positive jumper terminal and it came on (Might have been coincidence since the result has since not worked). Any ideas. I thought switch on the dash but i have tapped and maneuvered it every which way and it doesn't seem to be the issue.

Second issue. I used to think it was a loose heat shield underneath rattling around but after close inspection it does not appear to be the issue. It rattles during idle and especially when you shut it off. It doesn't sound thin sheet metal, it sounds heavier. Anyone have issues like this?

I've seen CAT convertor internal ceramic material rattle at idle and particularly when you shut the engine off. One possibility if you can't find something actually loose.

remove the headlight relay (get a fuse relay chart here on page 2 under tips and links 928gt.com )
open the relay and clean the contacts inside the relay also clean the hot post connections and the 14 pin connector above it fit a hot post cover if you dont have one it will keep the 14 pin connector from getting wet and causing elex problems

the rattle is probably a heat shield on the cats or one of the header pipes has cracked inside the heatshield at the cats a common problem, solution cut open the heatshield and weld the pipes back together

If you hear the rattle more at idle and then reslly hear it when you shut down then Id lean toward the rivets on the flex plate of the torque converter. PITA! Not critical. Id live with it after having done this job.

Thanks guys. Andrew I was thinking it was coming from the torque converter area after crawling underneath. Gonna let it go. Mrmerlin, thanks for the headlight info. Gonna try that now.

Regarding the rattle, a friend's car had the exact same issue. We were confident it was a rattling shield but when we got it on the lift, we determined it was the converter bearings. It turned out to be bad torque tube bearings. Check the position of the bearings in the tube by sticking a wire in through the holes front and back to measure and see if they have migrated. His front bearing had moved over half way down the tube toward the back. Good luck.
