Default 14 Pin Connector, Pin Out list

I've been slicing / dicing some of the electrical diagrams for a few years while working on an 84 USA.

Here is a piece with general utility.

For the archives.

I could have used this a year ago. My blocks fell apart and the best way to put this together was to rewire with connectors. Did make one mistake, but all is good now. All started when I found the A/C wire was changed. Wired direct to control in dash. Had to rewire a lot of things. Previous owner never took time to do correctly, so I did. Nice job

great post Chris this info will work for the 84 ,other years may have a different routing so check the WSM
Another note most of the wires will be faded so a blue yel may look like a blu wht or blu grn..
On the engine side of the harness, where the thickest red wire connects to the hot post this will be the wire wire that should be heat shrinked as it usually has shedding insulation and its usually faded to a gray brown color

Right, there were changes over time.
Above is correct for 1982, 1983 and 1984

Below diagram covers USA 32V 1985 and 1986 14 Pin Connector ---

Did that myself. Royal PITA. Ordered a new set of connectors, and promptly broke one of them while reassembling.

USA. Will edit.

From diagrams, 1984 Euro LH appears to have the same pin-outs as 1984 USA except no coil resistors (blank terminal 10) and no thermotime switch split from terminal 14.

Has anyone ever converted this into a modern connector?

Slippery slope.
The cars get bastardized pretty once quickly you start down (BTDT) and loose much value.
Of course it would work.

Kinda like the better water pump modification, right?

No, kinda like cobbling it up with baling wire.

The 14 pin connectors get fragile -- after 20 years of service!
We put a new one on an S4 last week.
Simple. Good as new.

I would only consider that water pump if I ran forced induction.

Thank you. I've started rebuilding my front engine harness and was just about to start looking for this pinout. Perfect timing.
