People love 928s
I drove up to Rhode Island on Tuesday and Maine yesterday and got a lot of positive reactions to the 928 while driving.
A guy on in a minivan honked and gave a thumbs up just after I crossed the Tappen Zee bridge. Two different sets of people did double takes walking by the car in Newport, RI. A gas attendent enthusiastically asked me "how many ponies does this badboy have?" and the desk clerk at my hotel started asking about the car when I checked in last night.
It seems more people notice the car as it gets older and there's less of them around.

Yup, and it always puts a smile on your own face as you are driving it and others strain their necks taking a 2nd look.

Hi,
I would add to your title "People love 928's" a lot of people don't know what is a 928 and never saw one that's why sometimes they look at our cars with a strange look in their faces!!
I'll never forget a few years ago when I was getting out of my car after parking it, and a group of young guys passing and looking at the car, and one of them said: " What a strange looking Porsche 944...."
Regards

My wife knows NOTHING about cars... I mean she can only describe cars like "it was small and red"... you know... in typical blonde fashion.
I don't own a 928 yet... but hopefully I will in the next few weeks (but that's another story), but when I was browsing pictures of the Shark (mainly from the big eyecandy thread in this forum) and asked her opinion about it.
It was a silver S4. She said "That looks like a brand new car. Why are you asking, you could never afford it."
Funny, when I asked opinions about BMW 8-series, she liked it but said it "looks old". Jaguar XJ coupe was judged as "prehistoric", Merc 500 SL (1991) was "an old square box with wheels" and Porsche 911 looked "funny" and the rear spoiler was "ridiculous". But the 928 got an immediate positive reaction. You gotta wonder how timeless the 928 design is, because my wife has judged almost all other "cool old" sports cars (the ones that I can afford) as "old pieces of crap".

I get lots of people asking me about my S4. One guy outside of Applebees the other night told his significant other, "Hey, look at the old Ferrari". I politely corrected him and we had a nice talk. The best part of the discussion is when you get down to price. I tell them how much it was new, then what I paid for it. Their jaws drop open. I also tell them they better like to stay on top of regular maintenance, it isn't a Honda.

Yeah, I took my car to a client's home years ago. He had a couple of pretty nice, modern Porsches in his garage. His wife sees me pull up and she comes over and exclaims, "WOW! Is that a Ferrari?!?" Of course the husband is standing right there.
I didn't get the job.

Just took two cars up for alignments and a new girl was working. She took me inside to fill out paperwork and stated to one of the guys that I know "This is Sean, and he has two Ferrari's in for alignments"
We both laughed.

I have an '84 S (US car) with your name on it... Ruby Red with Black/Can-Can red interior. Been driving it the last couple of days and it is an AMAZING head turner! Ready to drive anywhere in the country right now... PM me if you are interested in a very nice S.

I’ve had mine back on the road for the first time in nearly a year. I seem to be getting way more comments and complements from random people. I think that while the 928 styling looked very contemporary in 1995, when you compare it to today's cars, the differences are becoming increasingly conspicuous - even to people who are not interested in cars . Most of today’s cars are enormous, tall, hulking appliances. Their Fischer-Price styling has all the sex-appeal of a refrigerator. It’s hard to believe that at one time the 928 was considered too big and heavy for a sports car, because compared to today’s offerings it seems positively tiny and lightweight.

So true. I had mine up in Arnold CA a few weeks ago with my GF and had four incidents in one day.
1. Stopped at a famous local bar to get a t-shirt for a friend, on my way our a couple guys are walking and and saying "damn, there's your car, the 928 you've always wanted".
2. Coming out of the auto parts store wit some sap remover (grumble) a guy stops and says "hey, is that the '28?" (abbreviated just like that..) "Yes" I replay. "Hmmm, that's the good one right?" He asks. "Well, it's the big one, and I think so" I respond. "Mmmmm, sure is pretty" he says. "Thank you" (as I'm smiling like a Cheshire cat)
3. Pulling into a gas station and 3 women are chatting it up out front and as I walk in to the counter I hear "nice Porsche"
4. At the Mountain winery in Murphy's the weekend before the concourse. My GF and I are buying some wine and as we walk out, there's a group of 4 around the car (2 couples), probably in their late 50's and one of the guys tells me how pretty the car is and that he's got one as well. I wish I remembered the year and color, but I invited him over her to join us on rennlist.
Then last week in a Safeway parking lot a kid pulls up in a pristine 72 VW superbeetle and I compliment him on his car. He said he drove over to this side of the parking lot so he could park next to me. Then he says "What is that thing?" I said "It's a Porsche 928, a distant cousin of yours". We exchanges smiles and wen on our way.
