OK, Paul. It will take me most of a weekend to do this project, but I will be happy to help you fill your need. If you send the wheel that needs the adapter I can start working on the parts needed. I have some extra steering wheels that I can use for measurements for the parts I will need out of the original Porsche wheel.

Ship it to me at :

I will look through my spare steering wheels and if one is fairly poor I will use the parts from it and you can replace it with whatever you can come up with later. I will anticipate making a hub that puts the steering wheel just about where the original wheel is, or the maximum that my material will allow for as shown in the pictures. If that is too far off, I can get some other material, of course. Jerry Feather

Hi Paul. Did you read my last post? If you are going to take me up on my offer you need to send me the steering wheel now, not when you get around to it. The Porsche wheel and parts from it can wait, but the need for the original wheel is now. If you have already shipped it, then that is great. If not, I need it before next weekend. Jerry Feather

Hi Paul. Just to show you my heart is in the right place, here is a picture of what I have so far. You will recall the piece of aluminum I showed in a previous post. Here it is with much of the stuff turned away to leave what I think will become part of your new hub.

As I said in the PM, I have used the extension part of one of my steering wheels that has been extended by the factory. It makes the lower end of this adapther very easy to complete, and I don't have to destory anything to do it.

I bored the chunk of aluminum out and milled the holes and threads to fasten the adatper to the new aluminum. I have tapered the alunimumn a little and now have to wait for the steering wheel so I can fashion the other piece to adapt this all together.

I am going to finish this up in my rotary table in the mill and will have it all then finished up in the lathe and painted for you. I hope we can get enough length in it for your needs. Jerry Feather

On review, I see that the last post doesn't make much snese. I am going to finish here and then there?

What I should have said is that I plan to make the final piece for this hub/adapter in the rotary table in my mill, then put these two or three pieces together and then finish them up in the lathe.

Anxiously awaiting the arrival of the steering wheel.

Jerry,

Wheel is on the way. You should have it before the weekend for sure! Looks like a pretty nice setup that you have there!

Thanks again for all the effort that you are putting into this for me!!

Hey Paul. The steering wheel showed up in the mail yesterday. I checked your measurements and found them off a little, but was able to correct to the steering wheel. I have made the other piece of the Hub/adapter and have only a little machining left to finish it up. Here is a picture as it is now about 95% complete. Jerry

Just so you know, Paul, this steering wheel is going to end up about a quarther of an inch closer to you than the original steering wheel WITHOUT the factory extension. Jerry

WOW Jerry, that looks amazing!!

The measurements sound like they will be about perfect!! I have wondered before if I could remove the factory spacer because I always felt a little crowded with it, so I think the measurements of your hub will be pretty close to perfect!!

Can't wait to try it out!! You do pretty nice work Jerry!!

Hi Paul. As I said in the PM thread, I had to start over with the hub adapter. Here are a couple of pictures of what I have with the second iteration of the hub. What you see is still a lot of aluminum, although I spent a while at the mill and lathe trimming the new blank down to this stage. I think there will still be about half or 3/4 of this alumilym gone by the time I have the new version of this hub complete. Enjoy. Jerry Feather

Thanks Stan. There is really no other way. If Paul can't make one of these for himslef, he can't hire one made, nor could you or I. But, if this is the way for one of ours to use his favorite steering wheel in one of our favorite cars, what better pay day could there be for any of us. Jerry

And besides, Stan. I couldn't begin to put up the meager amount of effort I am putting into this little project against the countless hours and posts that you and many others put up in expertise for problem of various sorts for members of this forum, and I suspect, elsewhere as well. Thanks go to you and the others for your enormous efforts, also gratis. Jerry
