WTB 94/95 GTS
 

So I've been searching for a little while and realizing there are a limited number available, what is a realistic buy price for a manual GTS? I've found two with under 20K mi, asking $78K.....?? Any input?

Naturally, lower miles... price goes up. Esp w/low production #.
The range appears to be $20-100K
Really nice 5M drivers can be had $35-45K

it all depends....if you are looking for an ultra low mileage survivor that will be a pampered garage queen and rarely driven....it could be near $100k....

If you want a nice driver with say 100k miles...it could be in the low 30's....

Have a nice GT available if interested....

Now that is a great car. I still can't believe no one has bought it yet.

Not sure even a NICE 100k mile 5spd GTS would be as low as $35k... Probably closer to $40k for a nice one...

That said, a manually shifted auto will blow you AWAY!!! So, you might consider opening up your search a little. You can indeed find a nice '94 GTS auto (in the 75k miles range) for $33kish realistically. I have a pretty warped view of what is nice...my cars win awards all the time despite sometimes high miles (my '92 has 135k miles)!

BTW, I just drove the '92 tonight for the first time in a few weeks and OH MAN I LOVE THAT CAR!!! WOW! Could use a little more audio, the RMB is just not enough! It really is something special though! The '94 is too, but does not even have an RMB so it is WAY to quiet, but fast as $hit! Both of them are! They both LOVE temps in the '60's and I have to say, after a hot summer, so do I!!! What a gorgeous night tonight!

That character of the manual and auto 928's ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

Jim Morton on this board may still have his gorgeous Black with Tan 5 Speed GTS. Not sure what year it is but I recall he was asking $35,000

There was a seller in So cal with a Polar silver car (93) I believe asking $33,000 or there about.

Ryan is right, if you MUST have a 5spd then get a 5spd, if you THINK you need a 5spd because it is going to be faster, then keep dreaming...a REALLY GOOD driver could probably go faster in a 5spd, but few amateurs ever will. The problem gets to be traction and auto GTS's can break the rear wheels loose plenty easily. Even on a race track I have SHAMED many (dare I say all of them around here) 5 spd 928 drivers with my S4 auto! So, if you just get a masochistic kick out of stirring the gear box by hand and/or you are looking for a fun day only car where that won't matter so much then yea, hold out for (and pay the premium for) the 5spd car. That said, if I were not in a wheelchair I probably would mostly have 5spd cars too...but I sure don't feel like I am missing much with the 928 autos.

Can anyone comment if Jim still has his car for sale? If thats your budget then Jim's car is the one I would be all over.

There is no 'reasonable' price for a very limited production 15+ year old Porsche. With cars selling between $30k and $75, too many circumstantial factors influence the price. Best to decide on exactly what you want, then have the cash ready to pounce when something nice that matches what you want shows up.

Unless you plan to not drive it, i would skip the very low mileage cars, and focus on condition much more than mileage. Ideally find an obsessive owner that has put at least couple thousand miles a year recently on the car and kept it 100%.

Any special reason you want the rarest, most expensive model?

What I find personally most tempting would be an earlier car when dealers weren't ordering nothing but red, black, or white, and going with a Greg Brown stroker motor. The stroker makes so much torque, even an automatic is fun to drive.

Joe, what's your realistic budget? Wilhoit's probably the one selling the GTS you are talking about. You have to check Autotrader, Cars.com, Ebay.com and Craigslist (I use craiglook.com to search nationwide) but as you know you have to put aside $$$ even for a low-mile example unless it's been meticulously maintained and all rubber bits replaced recently.

I think you have to decide what you want out of the car. Setting 94/95 GTS and $78,000 as the target, is confusing. A 95 5M with super low mileage (10-20K) is the ultimate 928 "collector car" and it will earn a collectors premium. It will lose value as it is driven or is modified. Buying an "almost collector" car in that price range may be a costly decision. At this time, a 93 or 94 (or any year auto) are not in the same "last year/rarest example" league, and therefore should be had for considerably less, all things being equal.
If you want a clean 5M GTS to drive on Sundays, with an upgraded sound system, suspension mods, etc., I would look at the higher mileage examples (some mentioned above). If you just want a spirited 5M ride, a well cared for GT might be a better choice. Just my 2 cents.

Got my 94 GTS 5 speed from Willhoits. Very happy with the car and the deal we struck. And yes it was in the 40K-100K range. The rare and very purdy color combo made it a premium. It had 40K miles and upgraded Hypercoil springs, Koni externally adj shocks, and DEVEK sway bars. I was very apprehensive before delivery as it was the first car I bought without seeing and driving it in person first. After the price was agreed on Michael Willhoit put new tires on it, had it professionally detailed, got a second key from dealer, and transported it to me. The car was everything he promised.
