Unhappy Today was a sad day

I just watched my 928 drive away with a new owner. I hadn't really even planned on selling it but in casual conversation he mentioned he was looking for a 928 and I just as casually said I might sell mine. I figured my price would be way too high anyway. Well he showed up this morning, liked what he saw and offered me a price I just couldn't refuse. So now it's on its way to Chattanooga with a new 928'er who will hopefully chime in here soon.

Going out for drinks tonight.

Mark

Wow Mark, that came out of nowhere!

Buying another or just sticking with the redhead for now?

Maybe I need to get out with my car more often, perhaps it will find its own buyer....

Wow, i know how that happens though. Someone gives you more money than you would expect to sell for, and you just can't say no.

Congrats, I think.

I know it came out of nowhere for me too, definitely not real happy right now. But everything has its price and this one had 5 figures....couldn't really say no. Happened way fast, just said something like "I might sell mine" and next thing I know he's here, cash in hand. Total off the cuff comment because I knew my price was absolute tops for an '83, figured I would never sell it. Definitely a little numb right now, not sure what I'll do next.

I know what you will do next. Go buy another one, or send the F-car to Norwood for some work.

Mark - I suppose it's a good problem to have. If someone offered me top dollar for mine, I'd probably sell it too and start a 5spd GTS hunt (or build a twin turbo S4).

I wish someone would offer me top dollar for my Ruby '84... It does not even have to be 5 figures (but would need to be fairly close to 5 figures... it will go in next week to get all its handling issues sorted, the A/C recharged (worked great for 2 years and then this last year and a half just got weaker...little leak somewhere) and the passenger lock fixed. It will be ready to go other than a $hit stereo and in-op cruise and seats that could use a recover (or a patient person with one of the commercial redye kits).

Mine has it's price. Hope it's never offered though. I enjoy it a lot. All the other cars out there seem a dime a dozen, even my '67 Mustang convertible.

That's the trouble with offers, sometimes they get accepted.

OTOH when your car goes to a good home its not all bad.

I took the GT to kid #1's soccer game this morning. I still get out of the car and look back at it, every time. I'd sell it for the right (high) price but there's no rush. If anything your sale tells me that the nice 928's are going nowhere but up, even if the slope is, uh, gentle. Congrats on the sale and I hope you pointed the new caretaker in our direction

A 5 figure price for an '83 is hard to ignore. Perhaps it is a sign that it is time for you to get to know a different variant of the 928 family.

Well if it's a benchmark then so be it. My car needed nothing. Timing belt and water pump were brand new (like last week), brakes new, clutch master and slave new, a/c was meat-locker cold, interior was just as nice as the exterior, cruise worked great and drove just beautifully on the uprated suspension. Torque tube was rebuilt, only 10k miles on a rebuilt gearbox from 928 International, aluminum radiator and electric fan conversion, and on and on.... I can't begin to list everything that was done. There aren't many early 928s like that, will be hard to replace.

Still kind of in shock staring at the empty garage space. My daily Subie will go to my son sometime soon so I'll have to get something else. Plenty of time to decide.
