Default Approximate restoration costs..

My CFO (Chief Female Officer) is asking...

Whats the approx cost to redo various interior items?

Were seeing this as a common thread in a few cars weve looked at, just to be SEEING cars, and getting used to them in various conditions.

Recover dash
Rework front seats
Rework rear seats
carpets (incl hatch area)

The bits and pieces of the trim, ive been able to see online somewhat affordable, not too far out of line of what I'd expect.

Thanks!

Should be pointed out that there are differences between the two links. Paul does really high quality work, better than factory, not really a restoration. Although I'm sure he'd do it to spec if wanted. Rob also does great work and even sells kits, more targeted at actual "restoration". On the other hand, replacement original seats can also be found. If you are patient and not looking for something special you can find bargains on ebay and craigslist, or you can buy from a used product supplier like 928 International or DC automotive. http://dcauto.gotdns.com/

Pretty easy to drop $5,000 into an interior depending on what you start with and how new you want it to be ..... Once you start the new bits just make the old stuff look....OLD !

Once you restore a 928 you wont want to sell it either, unless you have to

Ya..I had to sell something..that was the car I'd had the longest at the time, and was pretty much "done".

In the driveway at that time:
2001 Jeep Gr Cherokee
95 300GT VR4
87 Supra Turbo
93 RX7TT
93 Celica AllTrac GT4
01 MR2-Spyder

Had to pare down, saw the economy making noises...so the supra went for a song, couldnt say no.

The RX7TT had a blown coolant plate seal, so..drained the coolant, replaced with plain water, and steam cleaned it to remove the AF odor..and traded that WITH the MR2-Spyder for a 2003 Z06.

Finished the VR4 road race strip & build, sold it.

Completed the minor restore on the Celica AWD/Turbo, sold it.

The wife unit a few yrs later..bought a Subaru Baja Turbo..thought it was cute, but the gas pedal ergonomics were _painful_ to drive it for more than 30-45minutes for us..but before she traded that out for a Mazdaspeed3 which we still have, we traded the Jeep and Z06 for the RX8 we currently have.

Somewhere in there, ended up with a bike ive always wanted, a 1987 BMW K75.

Love the 8..that, I'll never sell...

And today..always wanted a 928, just had to wait for conditions to let us explore it.

Speedtoys, if you liked your old Supra, you'll LOVE a well-sorted 928. I just bought my second 928 about three months ago and I fell in love all over again.

Yes, indeed. I LOVE the touring cars of the 80s...thats one of em.

Many of those cars, once reaching the 90s, left their touring roots behind, the Supra was one of them. The TT's were not the same, at all.

I have no need for the supra that most people think of..when you say 'supra'.

Well..it is mine, and a cessna 182 is -far- from a luxury burn-money-in-the-sky ride..and I rent.

Costs matter...just wanted to be more informed.

you will find the number is highly variable based on your personal taste.....if you want high end custom work like Pauls (this is what I would do if I could afford it)....then its substantial....

If you want stockish work you probably can source it locally for much less....

Is this going to be a driver, daily driver, garage queen, trailer queen? I've got one 928, my daily driver, which I admittedly WAIL on

The interior has its flaws: bad drivers side bolster, crack/tear in leather dash up by center right defrost vent (nicely downplayed, hiding under laser detector) and a tear in the passenger seat leather. I have paint flaws also. Before I go and spend $5K on cosmetics (which I don't have anyway) I'd spend $5K on a super charger
