The interior has its flaws: bad drivers side bolster, crack/tear in leather dash up by center right defrost vent (nicely downplayed, hiding under laser detector) and a tear in the passenger seat leather. I have paint flaws also. Before I go and spend $5K on cosmetics (which I don't have anyway) I'd spend $5K on a super charger
I would likely restore to "pretty darn good" condition, Id feel bad for an all-out attack, to then "use" quite a lot.

On a car with worn interior, the mechanical refresh, DIY, will be 3.5 to 5 if the motor and transmission are solid and just need reseal.

If you want it to look great and to last, I can only recommend Paul Champagne - from experience.

I recommend that you find and pay up front for car that meets your expectations. Even that one will give you plenty to take care of. Unless you are a masochist, which changes the recommendation a bit.

Wow!!
Sounds like all you have to do is the interior. Glad that's all you have to do!!
If the rest of your car is done and all you have is 5 grand worth of interior work, I totally envy you dude!!

At least it sounds like all the mechanicals are done. That means you are better than 99.9% of the rest of us here on renlist!!
I'm no where near that on my 79 that I've had for 15 years and it seems like I can't even get to that point on my GTS for some reason!!

Best of luck on the light at the end of the tunnel project dude, whish I had one fo those!!!

Course not..but that's what im gathering info on right now.

I dont plan to buy a non-runner, and long-term mechanical refitting is also expected...and anything inside the car, waits until those issues are dealt with initially, when needed.

Contrary opinion here, but if you're on a budget the cost to redo the interior far exceeds the additional cost of simply buying a car with a nice interior. You can buy a car that is decent mechanically but a rat inside for $2-5k or you can buy a car that is solid mechanically and cosmetically good for $7k, sometimes less.

That said I would love to have a brand new interior at some point even though mine is excellent. Hmmm....buy a rat, then buy my interior and I'll go talk to Paul....

To get a 928 which needs mechanicals and cosmetics (assuming average condition) looking close to factory condition I would say a total cost of at least $22K. The only exception would be if you are a painter and have access to a paint booth.
