A "bright" idea: illuminated window switches ** Important order info added **

Hey James,
actually, the very first plan for this project, was indeed to make the cover in leather. And it is possible. However, leather being what it is, simply does not cut or engrave cleanly enough, for pictographs as small as these, to be clear and sharp.
I ran into the same thing for the HVAC controls. That is why the design evolve to what it is now with a control panel surrounded by stitched leather.
When it's all said and done, this is a lot sharper and will look right at home, whether you have an updated interior or a stock one.

What I was thinking was not to have the leather cut for the pictographs but to have a sewn edge oval or round opening where the button is... That way it is completely tactile. You can just move your hand over there and feel for the holes in the leather that would correspond to the location of the up and down buttons and of course you would see the nice pics right there in the opening.
yes I got that. I was just explaining what the first draft of the project was.
I do like your idea, but unfortunately, there is very little room between the buttons for stitching.
But in any event, that would fall in that custom category I talked about, and when we get there, I will be happy to make some drafts for you.

It is up there somewhere
But it's worth repeating:
The panel of 8 switches, with a basic choice of black texture, carbon fiber and brushed aluminum, customized to your specifications, will come in at around $164.00
Considering that a single factory window switch is $60.00, I think that's not too bad. Even when adding the cost of the DEI modules, the total cost is still below the 4 factory switch cost and the new panel offers so much more in terms of reliability, functions and look.
We will be offering a discount for pre-orders, with payment required about 3 to 4 weeks prior to the panels being ready to ship. Some of these components require a large first order and an important setup fee.
So those of you who are seriously interested, please either post here or email me directly. We do need to gauge if this is something people really want.
Thanks again
Paul

I would be up for a set, with the black carbon finish and amber led's and no sunroof buttons, so only six buttons, let me know how to pay and when.
I don't really understand the DDI interface stuff, but I assume you will supply fitting instructions as it doesn't seem to plug straight into the factory harness?

I will have limited access tonight (prior engagements) but will try and follow up tomorrow morning.
Brett-
Cilifford is owned by DEI, so you likely have the DEI modules installed, or something similar, which can be used. Take a look and see if your installer left you any documentation, or if the model is listed in the receipts. You may also have a "Twindows" module instead, but believe I can make that work too (may require a relay or two at worst).
Thanks,
Hans

Spoke to my alarm guy today and he says he has already added 2 dei units (for windows and sunroof) to my Clifford 650 ...
He asked which model dei you use ?
My 650 alarm autocloses both windows and the sunroof but does not do "one touch" open or close, which would be nice if its possible ?
I will definitely have a unit from you and Paul so please take this as a definite order (blue/blue light) although I have deleted the rear wiper...the touch switch for that may be useful for something else...
Please let me know how much in total and add carriage to the UK and whether you take PayPal or which other payment ?
And when you would like paying ?
All the best Brett

I will let Hans tackle your tech question, but for the rest, I have noted your requests and put you on the list. I will keep you posted and will let everyone on the list know in advance when we will need payment.
Thanks again

Paul I'm in for the first batch with window Icons "mirrored" & sunroof but no wiper or hatch needed. However, if you can fit a button for a pop out glass holder that would be awesome (maybe next generation ) I REALLY would like black leather covered somehow. See what you can do, please.

James is forcing me to design a leather cover for his
So I might be able to accomodate you as well.
Thanks for the order

Brett-
I will try and have some directions written by this weekend for interfacing with the window control modules. You can then share this with your installer. It is very likely that you are already setup for the panel with your current configuration. The DEI 530T (windows) and DEI 529T (sunroof) controllers have an internal "solid state relay" type device which actually applies the 12v from your cars electrical system directly to the "+ and -" of the window motor. When you install these devices, your windows switch is removed from the circuit, and is just used to send a very low current signal to the module that tells it to apply either a + or - signal to the window motor. So, our new low-current switches work, because all they are doing is telling the window/sunroof controller what to do.
There is some magic that goes on inside the modules that does some current sensing, so it can tell when the window is rolled up, rolled down, or is closing on someones arm.... etc. There are also some additional wires that let you interface with outside sources apart from the switches, like a car alarm.

Thats great thanks
I cannot tell you how pleased I am to be getting rid of the original switches lol..I seem to destroy them for some unknown reason
Will await your instructions/feedback when its ready....

For those who would want to see the manuals for either or both of the DEI modules, please email me directly at champagn@stx.rr.com
They are PDF files that I will send you as attachment.
Thanks
