Ok...I confess. I bought the car from Earl.

you frequent visitors may recall this thread

I went over budget by almost 50%, but you only live once, right? The 928 is Dr. Jekyl. The 930 is Mr. Hyde.

I took the wife shopping in NYC today and we drove the 928. She likes riding in it much more than the 930. Below are a couple shots from today's jaunt into NYC. Merry Christmas to all.

Well bought. You may have gone over budget, but you've got a car that doesn't have a whole lot of catch-up maintenance to do, unlike 95% of the cars on the market.

Your next challenge is to get your wife to drive it, somewhere out of the city where she can put her right foot down

Good for you! Definitely worth it. You're already enjoying the best of what 928 ownership has to offer. No fuss no muss!

Let me know if you need some help making that seat bolster look perfect, it would take you about 1/2 day. Everything else already looks perfect....

Best present ever!

You did right! Merry Xmas!

Any reactions on the streets of Manhattan?

Not going to be much of a challenge. We're already discussing road trips and she asked "will you let me drive the car?" Of course I will! She wouldn't even consider a long trip in the 930...no A/C, straight through muffler, and stiff suspension. I've talked for a few years about shipping the p-car over to Europe for a grand tour (LeMans, Nurburgring for me...museums and shopping for her) but she wasn't very keen on doing it in the 930. The 928 would be perfect for this.

Thanks for the offer. I could use some tips. I hit the seats with Lexol leather conditioner yesterday and it helped, but not perfect yet. OTOH, I don't notice the scuff marks when my @$$ is in the seat.

Not really. It was pretty quiet where we went yesterday.

Best reaction thus far: When I drove the car home from Earl's (12/23), I stopped for gas in Jersey City. The gas station attendant asked "is that a Carerra?" I said no, its a 928. Another attendant came over and said "how many houses can you buy for that?" I told him it was 22 years old and cost less than a new Honda Accord (at least a luxed out v6 model). I explained that it didn't have a built in gps TV screen or many of the modern gizmos. He said "it still goes like a Porsche though, right?" and I responded "yes...definitely"

"...gas station attendant ..."

For those who aren't aware - there are two states (New Jersey and Oregon) where full-service fuel dispensation is still required by law.

Some of the cool things about the 928, you can go 'motoring' for half a day, and hop out refreshed and ready to shop, or hike. Your ears aren't ringing, your back isn't stiff and your wallet is still rather thick.

Next trip, head NW up into the twisties.

A) I'm glad this car went to someone who can and will appreciate it. Low mileage 928s are rare. 928s that haven't been butchered are rarer still.

B) Your wife is obviously a person of refined taste.

C) Now that you've enjoyed it a little, please, please get it the hell off of the salted roads. A couple of days driving on wet salty roads and 50% of its low-mileage goodness will be gone this time next year: cad plating will be gray, etc.

Great choice in 928's!

I'm sure it was not your plan to first get your wife accustomed to Porsche motoring with a 930, then pull the 928 switch-a-roo to "set the hook". Unintentional.
